This photo shows my sons all white "BABY" sitting in one of her favorite spots now when she can't get upstairs. This is an old washing machine, then a box of books and a couple cushions etc. It is near the ceiling of the basement. She likes being near the window for the warmth of the sunshine I guess. She is getting to used to my beable, Buster, but they still are leery of each other a bit. They stare at each other and still try to walk around each other as they pass paths. Do you have both cats and dogs in your household? Did it take long for them to get along so to speak?

hi Grandpa Bob oh yes when we had our own home, we had a dog and several cats, and since they pretty much grew up together
they got along pretty well. Our dog, a heinz mix often cuddled up with the cats and that always made a cute picuture. Now where I am i could have a cat or small dog but it would add one hundred dollars a month to my rent so I cannot afford that. darn.

Bummer. A lot of apartments always charge a fee to have a pet be it a bird or cat etc. I hate that but I guess the owners need to protect their exspenses if a pet does damage to the place.

well, we've never taken in a dog that didn't get along with the cats, so we've never had the problem of a dog not getting along - now once the cat learns that our dogs are "respectful" they settle down in a few weeks...
Honestly, Zhaan has had the hardest time and she ignores the dogs now, I WISH she'd ignore the cats - nope, she will still get upset and attack them - dummy...
My all white cat is named Timus

not anymore but I used to have a dog and a cat, the cat never liked the dog, and the dog would chase after the cat on demand. If the cat was somewhere she should not be we used to say to tuffy our dog, "get Tao" and the dog would run after the cat and the cat was always faster and jump away.

Nice kitty.
Harmony doesn't like other critters, but she seems to like the dog she used to live with.

HI my friend Grandpa Bob. I really loved seeing the photo of your son's little white cat. She is so gorgeous looking and sweet. So she is getting used to Buster. I like her choices of sitting places. Up by the warm sunshine coming through the window is an excellent idea. I have two miniature poodles called Secret and Magic. I haven't go any cats which is just as well. If Magic saw a cat she would try to chase him or her. I love dogs and cats.

I have always had cats and dogs together. When you bring new members into the house it does take time for adjustment. The biggest part of all of it is EXPECTING them to get along.
I had taken in my best friends dog when her husband had heart surgery. He had taught the dog to hate cats, so I had to deal with that problem. It took about two weeks and the dog understood that it wasn't acceptable behavior. She now will sleep with the cats, walk up and give them a kiss, share her food with them, and race in to check in on them when they make a strange noise. My best friend's husband is upset because the dog now loves cats, but it doesn't make too much difference because my best friend is going to divorce the moron soon.
One thing I did with the dogs and cats when they were getting acquainted was show one more affection than the other or push them away when I was paying attention to one. When the dog treated the cat nicely I would praise the dog and give them extra loving and a special treat. It emphasizes the fact that I want them to get along and that by treating the cat nicely they are pleasing me. If they did something I didn't like, I would chew them out and tell them that they were bad. I wouldn't pay attention to the one that was erred against as it would create resentment (that was providing that the erred party wasn't injured or scratched.)
I had a problem with the friends dog, she bit one of my mini Dachshunds a week ago. I really chewed the dog out. She inflicted a couple of puncture wounds to the Dachshund, fortunately they weren't deep wounds, but it was upsetting anyhow.
A great example of dogs and cats playing together was back in the 1970's. My Mom had a mini poodle and I had a Siamese cat. The two loved each other dearly. One day we heard a horrible squawking coming from the cat and we raced to find out what the problem was. Mom's poodle had the cat by the tail and was dragging him across the room. The cat, once the dog let go, would race down the hallway with the dog in hot pursuit. The cat would jump out of his hiding place, land on the dog and sit on her. The dog would struggle up and grab the cat by the tail and drag him down the hallway. They kept at the game for about half an hour and then the both collapsed absolutely exhausted and took a long nap together.
You'll find soon that the pair will become good friends and there won't be anything to worry about.

Hey Grandpa Bob! I think Baby is adorable! I sure hope she and
Buster will get to be friends really soon! They both are such
sweet animals and would probably make such great friends when
they finally get used to each other! Just give them some more
time and I think they will become the best of buddies! I never
had a cat and dog together, but I have heard "love" stories
before~
