How to avoid stage fear?

I am a student and I tremble a bit to talk to a group of people or in a presentation. I have tried many things but just couldn't get things my way. I have been watching Steve Jobs keynotes recently, and got really inspired. So could people out there give me some tips. Has anyone with stage fear and hiccups got rid of it?

i think the very best way to avoid stage fear is PRACTICE INFRONT OF MIRROR. its 100 percent it will reduce your fear. also practice infront your family members and close friends. go without fear and present the topic well. happy mylotting.

Ya Thank You. Seems like IN FRONT OF THE MIRROR is the best response. What does it do to us exactly, looking and talking at our face? I don't understand its significance. Could Someone explain me?

I am also a student and i still have stage fear specially when i'm doing a presentation. It takes time and practice to overcome stage fear. but usually when i'm discussing a topic which i really like or very interested with, i barely notice my stage fear kick in. Knowing the topic really well will help you become confident enough to express it in your own words. An example of this is when i presented a speech in our speech communication class. i picked music as my topic and it was easy for me to deliver my speech and even answer some of the questions my professor gave me. It also helps to practice a lot, in front of the mirror, or your friends and family.

Yes you are right, I have noted this to myself. When you talk relevant things, you are indeed uplifted in confidence.

I had stage fear for years... I was never confident of speaking in front of 10 people because, I always feared what if I am wrong. But the problem is, the people around you don't give you the confidence that you know enough, and what you know is right and you are entitled to your own opinion. Get that thought right first. Believe in what you speak, and know that you are right, and even if you are wrong, there is no harm in it, because everybody makes mistakes and opinion differs from person to person. Believing in what you speak, is the first way to overcome stage fear. The second thing is, try performing in front of people. Involve in some kind of story-telling for a group. Just read some story beforehand, and start narrating about it to a group of people and make it as interesting as possible. Read some newspaper, and especially, read the centre page article and try discussing it or presenting your views on it. The other thing is, get involved with some theatre group and go for some workshops, and also try acting in a play on stage. This really opens you up and removes stage fear and also gives you a lot of confidence to face interviews and also makes you a better socializer. Ever since I started doing theatre, I have lost all these inhibitions, and I don't hesitate to approach people from any walks of life. I am just open to speak to anybody, and everybody, and they also feel totally comfortable with me. I have faced a couple of interviews and they have been really impressed with my personality which was developed due to my onstage performances.

If there is stage fear, it can be overcome by participating in stage activities at a very small level, like doing it in front of friends or family or a small group.. If your friends are good and supporting, they will make stage fear to go off..

Hi SanthosBaala!! :) It is normal for a student to be afraid to speak in front of a group of people. Everyone will face it. But you should understand it's importance. Speaking in front of a group, makes you outstanding, because people listen to you. They might be unaware of what you are presenting. The ultimate deal is to make them understand better about the matter you are going to present. So just keep in mind that you are going to present something that is not known to many in the group. This will make you confident. And if you still feel afraid, never-mind... Do some practices at home. Perform before your family. They will make you feel a lot better. But i have a better way to get rid of your fear. Practice before the mirror. Look into your eyes and speak in front of the mirror. I haven't seen such a beautiful remedy for stage fear other than this. Hopefully this post helps you :) Perform well and all the best :)
