many people here (where i live) think IT support is not a respectable job at all. i have seen the attitude of the IT people towards these organizations. They feel that choosing such careers is a insult to oneself. Your thoughts on it???

Yes yugasini, people say that in I.T. support jobs are the place where one can wile away their time without doing any work and simply get theri salaries. But it isnt the reality. Support jobs is one of the hectic kind of jobs where you need to work upon certain things with proper accuracy and concentration. It can be compared to that of a live program and you need to update the details to the client in a quick and short timespan and hence you need to work in different kind of shifts in order to fulfill his requirements. But many thinks that development is the only respectable job in the I.T. Field and other are craps and in order to know more about this from people, I started this discussion. Cheers:-)

I completely disagree with you. I think people where I live think IT job is a good job. People who do manual jobs look at IT people with respect. I think they make a lot of money. Even if a person is a pantry cleaner at an IT company, he tells his family and relatives that he works for an IT company and doesn't introduce himself as somebody working as a pantry cleaner. I think got it wrong. Please check with more people nearby you. You may change your thought.

Depends on the whether its a Customer/Product Support. Customer supports will be interactive but it can become a routine and there is no thought process involved. However, in Product Support also you have the same typo routine work, but there will be slight amount of thought process involved. As of my experience, work involving with some thought process is well and good to demand more in the next organization.

Well, i am also from a IT concern. So i guess i could put in some valuable feedback. People think that a IT support is not they must be into for. IT support is actually equivalent to either testing or developments jobs. But they may not be comparable. But the advantage for IT support is they are prone to less tension than compared to the people who are involved in the testing and developments. And moreover you can at anytime switch to a development job that you wish which is not possible in the testing side. My thought is that, IT support is definitely a respectable job but may not be comparable.
