Do you carry things you don't plan on using? Why can't a gun be one of those?

I bring this up because everytime a thread comes up involving publicly carrying a gun, the anti-gun crowd acts as though the very act of carrying a gun means someone is likely to get shot. If people can carry guns in bars, there's a good chance someone will be shot. If a protester is carrying a gun outside a town hall, he must want to shoot or threaten someone with it. It's really the most ridiculous line of thinking I've ever heard.
I carry my State Farm insurance card with me all the time, even when I'm taking a train, going for a walk, heck, I even put my wallet in my pocket when I'm taking out the trash. I also carry my keys around when I'm on vacation despite the fact that I don't have my car with me and I obviously have no immediate need for my house key. To some people, carrying a gun is no different than that. They're used to carrying it so they put it in the holster when they're going out.
What makes people think that a person carrying a gun is so predisposed to use it violently when they themselves carry things all the time that they never use?

I'm used to hearing that a car is more deadly than a handgun, but I don't buy that arguement because a car is very useful in everyday life. A handgun is only useful for killing,or wounding another human. What a sad reason to carry a weapon in this civilized and friendly, United States of America!

Obviously youve never encountered a rattlesnake or roving pack of wild dogs,as I have.Everyday life differs considerably depending on the environment you live in.What was I to do,call 911? Contact my nearest Liberal Politician to initiate a fact finding think tank on my likelihood of getting KILLED without my fast and decisive SELF-DEFENSE.....
