When you want someone to leave but don't want to be rude...

Not too long ago, I was at a family friend's house and they had a guest over. We had a huge discussion about religion and a particular person was being pretty argumentative. Even though I wasn't the host or anything, I still wanted that person to leave to spare the rest of us of his argumentative and talkative nature. That's what got me wondering... How do you get someone to leave but not in a rude manner? Do you just have them stick around even though you're secretly annoyed by that certain person just to be nice? Or would you hint a little bit, like look at the clock and say something like, "Wow, it's THAT late already?" What do you think?

I met this kind of person before. I take my friend to kitchen and ask him to let him go. My friend say it is not good, we can change another topic. It's my friend's house i can not say more about it. Maybe i should go.

Oh, interesting way of dealing with it! That's a good idea. If you're at a friend's house and there's a guest that your friend has over and you obviously can't do anything about that guest, you yourself can just leave instead. Thank you for your response =]

i think what you mentioned is a good way to remind him, like looking at the clock or watch or pretend to be very tired. asking him whether he would like to have a cup of tea is also a good way. we offer a cup of tea when a guest just comes, but after his being there for quite a long time, your offer just means you ask him to leave or indicates you think he has talked too much and need some tea.

Haha, yeah I was thinking about doing that the next time he tries to start another serious debate ;] Oh, the cup of tea idea is a very good one too =] Thank you for the ideas and your response =D I'll be sure to remember them the next time I come across another person like him xD
