The way the India-Srilanka series, is going, I will not be surprised if we see the first 500 runs in the 50 overs match. Just think, if the batsmen are scoring more than two hundred runs in the 20 over matches, it might just be possible, that they may score over 500 runs in the 50 over game. What is your opinion on this.

Its impossible.I have played cricket for 5 years, and how difficult it is to score runs, that we know.its an international cricket.in future,i think 450 runs is the maximum runs can be scored in the history as well, but not 500

The World Record is 496 runs from 50 overs but not many matches actually finish with both teams reaching 50 overs. It can also depend on the other teams score as If you are in second you win when you reach the target and can't go on to reach 500.

pushpendra everybody has played cricket in his life time. The olden days are gone, if some teams are scoring more than 220 odd runs in a 20 over match, why should not one score more than 500 runs in a 50 over match. Who knows, it may happen in this series itself.

the time will soon come when 400 runs will be easily achievable. and for a record even 500 is possible in future cricket. I remember the time when even a score of 200 was regarded very good. Then 250 and now even 300 is not safe for the teams.

Hey there cool cat, how are U? Long time, since you responded. Yes you are right about the facts, earlier, even a 200 to 240 runs score was considered very good, but now even more than 300 is not safe. Example is yesterdays match. Yes 500 runs is very much possible.

Ramesh I am afraid that I have no comment other than what a delightful image you portray on a day when it is freezing and snowy here in England.

Pike, even in good old Chennai, it is quite cold. Of course we are not going to watch any cricket match for some time, the reason being our cricket stadium, is being pulled down, and a new one is coming in its place. So it is only T.V. for us.

yes 500 in a odi is not far away. it depends upon the pitch and the bowling attack. both indians and lankans have a good batting attack and probably india will take it in near future. but what i am eagerly looking is for the 200 in a odi by an individual

Yes, 200 by a individual is the one thing to watch. I feel, when that happens, the team will also reach 500 runs.

well i think it will be done in this series only because both the team having a very destructive batman at top of the order and they play freely cricket all around

I also feel the same way. Most probably it might be SriLanka, because news has just come that Yuvaraj is not going to play the rest of the series, and with Dhoni, still having a one match ban, it will be difficult for India to do it in the next match.

The reason the run rate is higher in a 20-20 Match is because there are less overs so the batsmen take more risks and need to score more quickly. It's possible that a score of 500 could be made in a 50 over Innings but It's highly improbable that it would happen as you would have to average upwards of 10 an over.

I really agree on your point, but the fact is the day 500 runs are scored is not very far away.

one day cricket - Sehwag in one day cricket
Ya thats true... if a batsman like Sehwag or Dilshan stays for the whole 50 overs or atleast 40-45 overs, then 500 will be easily achievable by India or Sri Lanka... but this kind of score is possible in Indian Subcontinent only... but to be true, i was very much surprised to see the match between South Africa & Australia where SA chased down 432... now a days its a batsman dominated game, so anything is possible..

Let us hope that they do it in the present series itself. Regarding the south Africa & Australia match it was a classic. I can never forget that match.
