Looking back, I'd have to say that the 2008 presidential election was nothing more than the 2 major parties telling the members to sit down, shut up and do what we're told.

Isn't that what every election is?

Sort of, but this election was different in a lot of ways. The Republicans put up a candidate who had been the bane of Republicans for years. Republicans were told by the party, "just shut up and get behind him, or we'll have Obama in the White House." The Democrats put up a candidate, then told the voters to ignore anything and everything about him. "He's a great speaker, and will be the first Black President". That's all that was supposed to matter. In both cases we were told not to consider the candidates' past voting records, experience or political views. What they proved beyond doubt is, arguing over which major party is better is a lot like arguing which is more honest, the Corleone or Soprano family.

Ted, I would have to agree with you in what you are saying (I know, I am as shocked as you are). I don't think that either party really wanted win this, because they knew the mess that they would be in if they did. I think republicans are probably the more concerned party, they should have no problem taking control of congress in 2010. But, the rift that they created by ignoring conservatives has created another faction of the party. They are only lucky that no one has stepped up to take the lead role in this new faction, if they did they could have a major divide/awakening in the party. It will be interesting to see what happens this next year, if republicans offer the same thing as they did in 2008, the entire party may revolt (which would be best for it, but you didn't hear me say that).

I'm hoping that's exactly what happens.
