Sequels You Wish They'd Make...

I think all of us "movie buffs" that post regularly in this interest would probably agree that, while there have been some really good sequels, more often than not the sequel is far inferior to the original. I think the better the original was, the worse the sequel seems, at times at least. However, I can't help wondering now and then when I watch a really good movie - you know, the kind that you wish would never end - what happened next. Have you ever felt that way? One good example for me is the old classic movie "Picnic" which starred William Holden and Kim Novak. It ended with her on a bus to meet him, much to her mother's disapproval. Every time I watch it I can't help thinking how I'd love to know what happened once they met up again. Did they stay together? Did he become a responsible grown-up? Or was it just physical attraction that soon faded once they were forced to face reality after the picnic was over... Annie

I would love to see another Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I love that series and mostly I love Johnny Depp. What do you think? Would you like to see another Pirates of the Caribbean movie?

I like Johnny Depp a lot, too, but would you believe I've never seen any of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies so far? I have no reason why, I just haven't but I'm going to try to rent or record them and watch them all one after another! I just thought of another one that would be interesting to see what happens next - "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Annie

I have not seen that one. But since you mentioned it I will try and download it as soon as I can. Try and watch the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. I liked them. The first one was the best, but just keep watching the acting of Johnny Depp and I am sure you will love them.

There are literally only a handful of movies that the sequel came close to the original, the only ones that do tend to work are those filmed together(Lord of the Rings) and when it is a series(I enjoyed the Alien saga). The most notable exception, is Terminator in that Terminator 2 was more successful then the original. I always wondered if they had made a sequel to La vita รจ bella how they would have turned out after the war, but the same can be said for most movies I mean in Sixth Sense how does the kid grow up, or Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events what happens then, Mr Mrs Smith do they work together now, Underground are they waiting for the war to end, I think someone already mentioned The Usual Suspects the list is endless. The thing is sometimes it is better that they don't make a sequel because if it is really bad it can destroy our appreciation of the original.

The idea of filming two or more movies together has become more popular now though traditionally it was rare. Things like back to the future the Godfathers etc were filmed independently, what is amazing is that their cinematographers could capture the lighting and scenes so that it does look like they were done together. Thanks for reminding me that would be fun Back to the Future IV following the Docs kids following the McFly family.

There are quite a few horror/mystery/thriller...whatever you want to call them...types of movies that end in a way that begs for a sequel. You're right about the ones that are series, there have been several very successful ones. Speaking of movies where they were all filmed together, didn't they do that with the "Back to the Future" films? It seems to me they did and I really enjoyed all of them. Annie

I would love to see a sequel to "The Goonies." It would be fun to see where the young people are today. The movie is still fun to watch. I doubt a sequel would live up to the original one though. But, it would be interesting if they had a good plot.

It's been so many years since I've seen "The Goonies" but I think I agree. I'd have to watch it again, obviously! Annie

Some stories are better to leave with open ending. Anyway, I'd like to see The Punisher sequel. They finally found the right actor to play the guy and now they just need a decent script to make a good movie...

I would really like to see another "Usual Suspects". That was a great movie, with a great script. I am sure that they could easily continue the story.

I wish that they would make a sequel of Pretty Woman. I would to know how her live turned out with the billionair. Another would be Dirty Dancing where did they go to after the show. Maybe someone special will see this and get the hint on what viewers want to see..LOL Keep smiling.

The one I'd like to see is Eldest. Of course to make it they'd pretty much have to remake Eragon. While Eragon was a good action adventure movie it didn't contain many of the things that made the book so good. The romance & intrigue were completely left out along with his cousin ( who becomes a major player in the next stories ). The producer dropped the ball on that one.

Most of the time I agree that sequels should just not be made. In fact, I have a "sequel" to this discussion planned on just that topic...lol! Annie
