OK. I'm currently at work just finishing up, but I wanted to tell you a quick story of something that just happened. Just for some background information: We close at 7 PM (I work at a dry cleaners). There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Except that I will make an occasional exception if someone is 10 minutes OR LESS late, because I generally feel bad for them. Or if they call ahead of time to make sure it's OK to come a little late (which I encourage them to do, and sometimes I'll do that for them - it's good customer service, whaddya know. lol.) Well, today, I had a car pull up at 7:20 PM, TWENTY minutes after close, after I already shut down my cash drawers - and the customer was hoping to pick up. The chick came out of her car and tried to open the door (and by the way: we have our hours clearly posted.. 7 am to 7 pm!) and started knocking and trying to convince me in letting her in and letting her pick up her dry cleaning. I said no, we're closed, and she apparently got mad when I walked away (to the back, so I wouldn't have to confront her anymore), and started knocking on the doors and windows and yelling profanities! She even seemed to come around to the back door (which no one uses but our truck driver!) and pounded on that door! Like I was going to let her in or something! (Yeah right!). Anyway. She finally LEFT after 10 minutes of this. Now, 10 minutes doesn't seem like all that long of a time, but in that situation, it definitely is! I'm not used to this, that's for sure. I've been working for this dry cleaners - at this location - for about 2 1/2 years and I've been lucky thus far in not having to deal with many of these crazy people! But today was an exception apparently! My question for you: do you ever get crazies like this at YOUR job? And if you were in my position, would you have relented and let her in? (And somehow figured out how to give her her stuff despite our drawers being checked out?) Is it good customer service, or just plain OUTRAGEOUS to let people in 20 minutes past close?

When I worked at a hotel gift shop, there were definitely some crazies, and a lot of stuck up and pushy people. People would get mad that we were closed, one guy yelled at me once and because he couldn't buy a coke because I had closed the day out. Another woman got so angry that I couldn't give her quarters or change because we were very low on it, and the banks were all closed. She refused to buy a coke, she said "I won't drink Coke, I only drink Pepsi!", and proceeded to say that she was close to checking out of the hotel, just because she couldn't get a Pepsi. Some people are just jerks.
