For those who go to movie theaters - do you take your own trash out?

Yes I do, every time, no matter what movie theater I'm at. I went to a cheaper one today, one that charges $3.00 for the matinee instead of the usual $5.00 to $7.50. It has the worst customers when it comes to this. Popcorn and their containers as well as drink cups are strewn all over the place and it takes several people to clean up the mess before the next showing. Mainstream theaters are not better off. I estimate they have more than half of the amount of the cheaper place, but still that is too much when you see how many adults are accompanying their children. I would think they would have some sense of responsibility teaching their children adult values, but oh well ... Places that show art and foreign films (here matinees are $6.00 but only the first showing; the next showing, even on weekdays before 1 P.M. are still $9.00) There may be one or two who leave their trash, but the customers there are the most responsible. IMAX* is the most expensive theater, and I noticed after a movie there there is some trash left by more than a few. It doesn't seem to be as bad as the mainstream theaters, but it is really too much for such a technologically sophisticated place. * IMAX is a very special movie theater with a very big screen, and only some places have it. See http://www.imax.com/ So except for IMAX, it seems like the less you pay to see a movie at a theater, the more likely it is you are less responsible and leave trash behind. Is it possibly only mature people go to theaters that show art and foreign films? And the least responsible go to the cheaper ones? Would that be a fair assumption? Thank you for your responses.

We have the morning shows in almost all the theaters at cheaper rates. It is usually 1/3rd of the usual ticket price. I would not say, that the people who go to these shows misbehave and use the whole place as a dustbin. They are pretty nice and well mannered. We as college students do not have enough money to watch other shows and choose the morning shows. We do not misbehave and neither does the others. Have a nice day.

I'm sorry to offend. This is what I observed in the United States, and I should have communicated that. As a child I lived several years in Germany and visited several foreign films, but it was too long ago to recall the state after the movie. Probably left by American tourists! Yes, I know. I'm so bad, at times.

Was I too serious? I did not blame you for anything. It is an experience you had and why should I blame you for that? It does not happen in my city, that does not mean they do not happen anywhere else. Try to stay away from theaters like those in the future.

No, I just get paranoid in international relations. With me in my old age being more judgmental in my opinions, I tend to be blinded by my preconceptions, and I get fearful of a posting after the fact, that I didn't research the item thoroughly ... It's a curse, being a failed perfectionist. Thank you for understanding.

Hi Qaeyious. I don't go to the movies very often. As a matter of fact I didn't go for years after my oldest was born. LOL However, when I have gone, I've made sure to throw away my trash. Well, most of it anyway. I've been guilty of leaving bits of food behind, like popcorn, that has accidentally fallen onto the floor. No matter how careful I am I always seem to drop some. But for the bigger things, like containers, wrappers, and cups, I take those with me and make sure to dispose of them properly, no matter how much the movie cost. Happy mylotting!

Oh, I've dropped more than my share of popcorn kernels, so your sins are forgiven my child. Go, and sin no more! (sorry, attempted humor that falls outside the boundaries of good taste ...) Of course you already know I do that on occasion. My problem are the ones who require an entire staff to clean up after the swine who leave everything. It is probably the reason why theater tickets are so expensive these days.

LOL Thanks! I don't mind that kind of humor. I'm used to it with my family as they do the same thing! LOL

I always take my trash out when we go to the movies. I do that when we go anywhere. it bugs me when people don't. it may have something to do with the type of people. if they can afford to go to the expensive shows, they probably had a better upbringing and were taught more manners. I was so mad at the people sitting next to us at a parade once. I make sure my kids throw all their candy wrappers in our candy bag and then we throw them away when we get home. These people it was 2 adults and a kid that was probably 10 or older. We were sitting in people's yard watching the parade. after it was over they got up and left and i looked over and they left their empty water bottles and all sorts of candy wrappers in the yard. there we were with 4 little kids and 5 adults and there wasn't one scrap of garbage where we sat. i couldn't believe it. some people just don't care.

Hmm - most likely that child is going to think it is acceptable to leave his trash elsewhere. I wonder how long that has been going on? Is that why our cities are such a mess now? More and more adults refused responsibility, taught their children to refuse responsibility, and now we have all these adults refusing responsibility? I recommend after parades, police issue littering citations, instead of having them think it will be cleaned up eventually. Yes, it will take several thousand personnel. Do like the old west - swear in deputies. I'll gladly serve as a deputy to stop such behavior. How many is with me?! Heh - do it after movie shows let's see how quick we can clean things up! Yes, I know I'm being silly. But it does put it in a different perspective, doesn't it?

The cinemas I go to locally place trash bags in a frame in a corner on the way to the exit doors,so that you'd pass by it on the way out,and could dump stuff as you go..The staff still have to come in and give the place a going over for loose popcorn and such, but I don't think they should have to be collecting boxes and drink cups that had been simply abandoned too! I'll do matinee shows when it suits my schedule, but I'd imagine a kids movie Matinee would be more messy than a more mature showing!

Hello Qaeyious and somewhat both agree as well as disagree with your description in this discussion.Fisrt of all its the every singe viewer who is reaponsisble for its own trash and not all viewers.Me too often do visit the theatres, diff types, but mostly avoid doing trash in it, better use to put trash in the bin avail in its canteen. Also mostly watch that many peoples do follow such an discipline in the movie theatres.Well it doesn;t matter what kind of film you are watching and also in what kind of theatre, its our behaviour that count the most. But yes often experienced that in cheap theatres, normally cheap crowd enters and do a lot of trash even keep on smoking and drinking while watching movies, its just an social mess and should be fined with some huge sum.Only then it would improve to be better social person as well as an good movie viewer.Anyways enjoy your movies, keep on to be clean, Happy mylotting.

Yes I usually bring my own candy in and discard it when I leave. I can't stand it when I'm walking down the isle and I see empty popcorn buckets laying all around. I then wonder about these people and how they must keep their rooms or their houses. To me only slobs would leave their garbage behind.

Yes, I always carry out my own garbage, it is rude to throw it on the floor.
