I am an employee of a broadcast giant here in the Philippines. Recently, the IT department have blocked Blogspot on its internet access.
I just can't believe this guys. They are a symbol of freedom and justice since when I can remember. They stood guard against oppression and the protection of rights of the Filipino people, as a nation. They are a symbol of creative thinking but how come they restricted Blogspot from our internet access.
Blogspot is where I compose my thoughts and where I write everything I want to write without someone telling me otherwise. Now, the management where I work is restricting that access for free thinking, free journalism and everything freedom that is concern.
What can you say about this, guys?

Hey!They don't want you to stop blogging at all.The boss just wants your office hours fully devoted to your job.And they are not going to block you blogging anywhere out of the office and office hours. Then your complaint is not going to be a valid one.

If they have the tool to monitor what sites are being accessed by their employees, then they surely have a tool to monitor what times I am accessing blogspot. I only do that after office hours or, in the morning, when I arrive early in the office.

Even then,if the boss thinks that the office computers are for office work and no personal work be done at any time,we can't blame them.In this period of recession, most offices look for all the possible ways to reduce their expenses and this may be one of that.

Some offices tend to block all email, chatting, social networking and blogging site.
Some even dont provide internet.
However you can try the websites like hidemyass.com to surf anonymously and then to access the webpage, unless they blocked it as well.

Sorry, but I have to side with your company in this discussion. Even if they stand for freedom, and justice, and all that, management still has the right to restrict anything that could run counter productive to the ideals of the company. If they are a broadcast giant like you say, then they must have stock holders to report to. And if running blogspot does not contribute to the bottom line, then they might as well get rid of it.
I think the only way that they could allow blogspot in your access again, is to make every creative thing you put in blogspot, a company property.
This is my opinion, looking at the bigger picture. Sorry ethanonthemoon.

It is just a blog site bounce58. What could it do wrong to the productivity of the whole company? Not all employees are into it anyways? Some might like to access Yahoo, or MSN, or CNN, or ESPN, well I like to blog, in general. If this is the case, as you have mentioned, then is it fair to all to just cut the internet connection inside the company?
