What do you recycle and do you get paid for it?

Most people are reminded everyday by signs and advertisements telling us to recycle, some people I know throw everything away. Personally I recycle aluminum cans, because we use lots of them at my house. Also when you smash them and have many big bags full of them you get a nice payment.

i recycle what i can, unfortunately there is not much that you get paid for here. we used to have bottles with a deposit on them and you'd get that back when you returned them to the shop but these appear to have disappeared in the last few years. as well as recycling trash i put up unwanted things on freecycle, which again you don't get paid for (somebody gave me a box of chocolates once) but it is nice seeing something you don't want going to somebody who wants or needs it.

Yes, it is nice to help out people who need things. It stinks you can't get paid for what you recycle though.

I learned to recycle aluninum cans from my father. He used to work construction, so we ended up with a lot of cans. I used to recycle cans myself for cash until all the local recycling centers dried up. The city started a recycling program, and the centers that were paying went away. Every two weeks I haul out the bin, so the city can pick up the recyclables. Of course, the type of recycling that I am more interested in is figuring out ways to reuse things for elementary school art, and found-art projects. My wife teaches elementary school art, and I pretend to be an artist. Occasionally, I will use something to make a lodge prop with. So short answer: Yes, I recycle; no, I do not get paid for it.

That is not cool about the recycling centers, but it is nice to hear your recycled things help kids learn.

You're right! Aluminium cans .... I knew they're worth more than papers but I never collect them for resale, funny! What I do recycle is newspapers and old clothings, and yes, the karung guni man does pay a little for them. However, I don't go all out to collect them, just whatever that we had used ourselves and wished to clear from our house.

any little bit of extra income is nice though.
