Rain on Christmas?

United States

For some of you it's typical winter weather..... here not so much! We've got probably about 8in of snow on the ground and it started to rain yesterday afternoon. See now I'm in an area that gets SNOW & plenty of it this time of year. So all this rain and high winds is very very unusual. So I dunno what the weather will look like when I actually get out there but I'm worried. As I'm curious if the snow is melting any? Will everything turn into ice? If it does turn to ice I am thankful that we don't have to travel far if we decide to travel at all during this holiday. I hope I make it to work this weekend. Still it is weird listening to rain hit the window pane this time of year...it's not spring or summer KWIM?

The strange thing is that it's nice and sunny where I'm at right now. There's only this slight chill in the air too. This doesn't even seem like winter weather. I was expecting rain at least but it's been sunny, clear blue skies for the last few days. Feels like spring in a way. But I don't think I'll complain much, it's better than the constant rain of a few weeks ago.

Hi saizo: In my case it was a sunny day but now it's cold not to cold but I feel a fresh breeze in the air that it's just perfect and makes me really happy. I don't know why but this kind of weather (cold but not too cold) makes me feel in total peace and that makes me really happy. Thanks for your answer. Hope you are having a nice day. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays. Take care. -Alvaro.

It rained here on Christmas, too. I'm in Ohio and we have snow about half the time on that day. I was glad this year that it was cold but not freezing and the roads were clear because I had to travel. However, the rain turned to snow and it was icy the day after Christmas. I haven't been on the roads because of that but it's pretty clear today and I need to get more bird seed.

when it has rained here lately it's been that evil freezing rain. i'd actually rather it snowed than deal with that bit of nastiness.

We had 14 inches of snow two weeks ago and this weekend we were suppose to get more. However, it has been nothing but freezing rain for basically the last 2 days. There has been some snow but mostly it is just ice and slush. Let me tell you, I would rather have the snow. I snow blower doesn't remove ice so well and that water logged stuff gets heavy.

Early last week they had predicted that we would have a white Christmas, but that didn't happen. It rained on us for Christmas as well, and it was very disappointing to me. We don't live in an area that gets a lot of snow, but it is so beautiful to enjoy when it does happen. I was hoping that we would have a white Christmas. I didn't want too much snow, but I wanted enough snow that would let us enjoy all of the Christmas lights with the fullest of glory. However, we weren't able to have that. The weather this year has just been too strange.

Hi snuggle bunnies: I am not sure about your local weather but it seems to me a little weird that it rains right now on Christmas as you have mentioned. hope everything is good where you are. At least when it's raining you sleep more comfortable, thought. Even with that hope you had a nice night yesterday and thanks for telling us your situation. Hope you are having a nice day. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays. Take care. -Alvaro.

I'm with you on this one....the weather around here has been quite unusual lately. I live in NC and we hardly ever get snow anymore, and when we do, it's only 2 or 3 inches and then it's gone the next day. Last week at this time, we were getting a HUGE snowfall that ended up being a foot of snow. That may not sound like a lot to some people, but around here, that just doesn't happen like it once did. The snow has stuck around all week and I would say we still have around 4 or 5 inches in our yard. But I awake today to the rain! I hate rain...and I especially hate rain on Christmas. I miss the Christmas day celebrations when it was snowing outside. The last few years, I have spent Christmas wearing shorts and t-shirts when we get together with family. At least this year it will feel like Christmas because it's so cold. Now if we could just get rid of the rain and make it more snow!:)
