The One Only Place Survived In 2012?

The Kaaba - The Kaaba, the most holiest place in Islamic world.

For admin of myLot, please don't block this topic. I will not violate the terms of use, believe me. In Roland Emmerich's latest film, you will see the destruction of St. Peter's Cathedral, the Vatican and Notre Dame. You'll also see the collapse of the White House, the Capitol, Big Ben and statue of Jesus in Brazil. But 2012, the new film which showed the end of the world, doesn't contain any scenes of Saudis being swallowed up by desert storms or Dubai being sucked into a sea of oil. The filmmakers admit that they were afraid to depict the destruction of Mecca and Kaaba for fear of Islamic retaliation. Roland told to Sci-Fi Wire: "Well, I wanted to do that, I have to admit. But my co-writer Harald said I will not have a fatwa on my head because of a movie. And he was right. You can actually let Christian symbols fall apart, but if you do this with an Arab symbol, you would have a fatwa. Emmerich admitted that the original screenplay called for a sequence in which Kaaba disintegrates to dust but realized that such a scene could result in the end of his professional career. So what is your opinion myLotters? (I hope only good comments here). Cheers!

I do not beleive in censorship of any sort. So ideally a film maker should be able to depict anything he wants. But, I also welcome the self-restraint displayed by the film makers, in order not to hurt others feelings. Coming to the islamic world, it needs to develop and open-up. That being said, the western world has been at war with the islamic world for two thousand years now. It is hard for the islamic world to trust the west. Moreover,it is helpless. Wars after wars have them scarred and the western world is in no mood to engage them in any meaningful dialogue. So its really a helpless situation.

What do you suggest? Keep waging wars? These wars only further radicalize the people creating more terrorists. That is somehing which we dont want. We stand to lose at the end of the day. Not all people beleive in the fundadmentalist form of islam. We need to encourage them to enter politics and be counted.

A study of the Islamic belief system has shown, that they are not reachable via dialogue. Their holy book commands them to "kill ALL" infidels, and anyone who is not an Islamic muslim IS considered an enemy/infidel.

hi zararul, I actually wonder about it too but then again it is hard to get different religions involved in the said film. I know for some it will be okay but, people have different opinions on this since, religion is a very sensitive topic. But to think it over there have been various films that showcased different religions and beliefs especially with Muslim. So I think it will not be a problem anymore, people are more open minded now about things. But as we all know, it is hard to gamble on sensitive matters where religion are at stake. Moreover, the film was delivered nicely and I think that is more important.

Frikkin cowardly writers. Why cave in to hinted threats and the like? Unreal, absolutely unreal. Hollywood thinks nothing of offending it's own countrymen in many of the movies it puts out but it is afraid of offending a few radical nuts? Pssssh, that just disgusts me.

Zaharul94, It's quite difficult to comment on this because of the repercussions of giving honest opinions, my friend. By the way, your English here shows marked improvement. Congrats to that. Cheers

I would have thought that people with a rational with would not see it as a big issue. The story is based on something which would probably not happen. Unfortunately those with a small perceptive of the issue, or narrow minded, would make a mountain out of a mole hill. Let us take the view of Islam. Those who studied more than just the obligations would know that the Kaaba will be dismantled by a group of people from Ethiopia. Any other depiction in a story or movie is just an imagination. As such I do not see what the fuss, if any, is all about. I would regard the movie as an entertainment. In the world of make believe, almost anything goes.

I am sorry if my response offended you, or anyone else. It was not my intention to control anyone's mind. As I understand it this is a discussion site, where we are given the freedom to express our opinions, even though they seem to be at odds with the opinion of others. I am not a fanatic, and I can appreciate some form of entertainment. For example my favourite genre is science fiction, followed by fantasy. Those who have read my writings, and made some deeper investigation about me, will probably come to the conclusion that I am not narrow minded. There is a difference between a fanatic and a fundamentalist. Sharing an opinion is not the same as shoving our thoughts into other people throats. This response is late because I moved house, and the ISP took its own sweet time to have the line transferred to my new abode.

I have not seen this movie yet. but anyone must undersand it jsut a moive about the world comming to an end. yes a lot of things would be destoryed so it seems to me that any one would undersand that the desruction of anything sacared to anyone would be a part of the plot. so I can see why anyone woudl be offended if it is indeed the result of some natural cause.

Well, I hope no offense is taken because of this, because I have no problem with the religion of Islam...but I think it's pretty sad that the directors had to worry about putting people in a movie for fear of retaliation. I couldn't even understand if it was a movie with only Muslims being killed, yet in a movie where every religion, every race, every person, is killed, we can't show certain people or they might issue a fatwa. It just seems pathetic that there are actually people who would react that way. I realize that not all Muslims would support a retaliation, but it doesn't make the ones who do any less pathetic. I think you have to be pretty insecure if you would do something about a movie like 2012. I mean, most people go by the whole, if you don't like it don't watch it creed. If I say a movie with white american atheist's being killed, I wouldn't care either way. We all need to grow up a bit.

Yes 2012 is going to be greatest Red Letter Year . The film 2012 shows destruction of world but not a total destruction . The story clearly says something disaster will happen but will not affect entire world. But it is true all science facts , Pyramid in egypt clearly signifies 2012 Red letter Year no body knows what happens. There will destruction in world, which ever place it is happening around 1/3 of people will die. This was shown indirectly in film 2012.

This 2012 scare is just another thing like when we went through the 'y2k' thing. The world will not end. There ay be some weather changes and a few earthquakes here and there, and possibly even a volcanic erruption, but that's been going on that way for generations. A big part of the changes coming are not affiliated with so called global warming, but are the prophecies of Jesus Christ being fullfilled in our time. Every word that He prophecied in the past has been fullfilled completely. There are many yet to be fullfilled, and may even be fullfilled in our time. I don't know if I'll see one spoken of in the Old Testament, in Ezekiel chapters 38 & 39, but that one will be a big one!!! Multitudes of nations will go to war against Israel, and God himself will come on the scene in her defense.

As per the prophecies of the bible before the end of the world there must be war between israel and palestinian as it is written in the bible. This is the most significant symbol for the begining of destruction of the world. Are we ready to face the situation. Single currency concept will be evolved and chip injected in hand or in forehead chip is a replacement of 6 identity cards of human for security will be adopted in the world. As it is written in the bible the sufferings are so much that it is so far not witnessed in the history of the world.
