What makes people give negative votes to discussions or to a posts?

I never press minus under the post of someone, if I don't like someone's opinion I just skip it and that's it. When I reply to a discussion I always click on the plus button, the same with all the responses I get to my discussions. So I really wonder what makes people give negative points to other MyLot members and their discussions. What do you think? I really don't know what would someone has to write to make me click on the minus button under the post or discussion, maybe offend people, or say something totally illogical although I usually don't read posts that are offensive or/and illogical. What about you? Thanks for all responses.

i dont think about this problem whether what my response to discusion would be offensive or and/illogical.because i think that everybody have different views,so i want to express my owned opinion to discussion.sometimes i think that i always think about someone's mind,it is not good thing for him.

Well I really think that offending people is not correct. If someone is offending me I will certainly not drop to their level and hit back offending and saying bad stuff about the person because because I tend not to offend anyone, but expressing different views is good, in my opinion, but we can all express a different oppinion without offending someone.

It depends on the discussion and pressing minus means it has either immaterial matter or it has hurt some one's feeling. But one thing we should remember is we are getting some response to that discussion.

That's right, responses are what counts here. Not only because of the money but the fact is that it always makes me smile when I see that my discussion got more than just a response or two. So every response is welcome just not those offensive ones. I am grateful to all the people who among all these discussions here on MyLot chose mine to write something.

I think it is because some people do not have the ability to give constructive criticism which is really sad....I think this forum should be not to bash people but to give good advice or not even if you do not agree with it but in a very nice way

I agree, good advices are always welcome. To agree or not agree is totally different than judging a discussion a bad or a good one.

I like the unbias opinions and comments to my discussions/comments but we are all adults here and should conduct ourselves in that way.... I think some people just do not know how to act as an adult....That is really sad...

Good day to you lorelai.. Yeah me too when I found a particular comment or response illogical or shall I say nonsense I just leave it as it is I don't give a minus because I am after the effort of that individual writing that particular post it's not that easy to comment on something and then eventually receives a minus sign very discouraging. Maybe these people who gives minus ratings are people who just want to give a sign that they don't agree to that particular comment but seems unfair on the part of the one writing. But maybe giving a minus rating enables the illogical respondent to learn and maybe improved his or her way of commenting things here in mylot. Although I'm a bit new and quite inactive here in mylot but I am able to express what's inside of me.Freedom of expression is very important even though it's irrational.

That's true, freedom of speech is granted to everyone and I really think that is the case here in MyLot too. Most of the people don't use minuses just for punishment but there are some who use that button just for personal vendetta, in order to punish someone who doesn't think the way they do.

I would answer a discussion in a philosophical manner. This way, It would not have a right or wrong answer, therefore avoiding the contradiction to the writer. If I really against the responses, then I try to provide myself with my point of view over it. Most members are all mature enough to accept other members POV.

Yes, most of the members here are really great and use the minus button in a proper way but it is also the truth that it takes only one person to make one's ranking drop.

It happened to me too, I had ranking 10 and then I participated in a discussion that was about homosexuals, the day after when I logged in to my account I saw that my ranking dropped to 10. That happened more than a year ago, I wasn't much active after it, just didn't feel like participating in a community which is able to punish people because they are open minded.

I guess if someone is rude or way off what the post was pertaining too. I think sometimes when one answers in such a small way that barley even says anything that might receive a neg rate. I am like you also, I dont rate neg if I don't like the response I just skip it. But it actually has to be pretty bad, since I think people deserve a good point just for trying.

hi lorelai I also never hit minus as thats a mean way to treat people. The only time I hit neg was a person who was 'getting very abusive to me for no reason at all, and finally instead of another neg I hit the exclamation point and reported the whole response to mylot admins.they Agreed that it was really abusive and deleted all the responses from this poster.Other than that I hit positive as mylot admins told me in a response to my message to them that we helped our own ratings as well as other mylotters when we gave positive ratings to all our mylot friends.I steerclear of political discussions and religious discussions as they tend to have some nasty responses. I do not like confrontations myself.

I just hate when someone is rude for no reason at all. The fact is that sometimes people don't understand what we actually tried to say or they misinterpret our words but still I tend not to offend anyone. IO am glad you resolved the situation. Thanks for the response.

I only vote the minus if a post is rude or agressive, but there are a lot of people on mylot that just get a kick out of voting negatively, but to be honest don't worry about your star rating its no big deal its just a number at the end of the day lol,

yeah I understand that it affects your earnings might make the difference of a few cents here and there but its still just a number, you can't please everyone and personally I don't try and please everyone the minute people get really concerned about their star rating is the day people stop having discussions on mylot, and everybody starts agreeing with everything thats posted just to get the star rating up. To me thats not what mylot is about, the minus is there for abusive or agressive or a response that does not enrich mylot. The only time I do it is for spammers and also abusive or threatening responses

Hi lorelai, unfortunately there are a few saddos on here who use it for amusement. I think they should be named and shamed as it isn't there for that. If something is offensive one should use the abuse button and get the offensive remark removed. The negative button is used an awful lot in the politics section as witnessed by the ratings of the people who post in there, its a disgrace.

I guess that's because people don't agree with someone else opinion and religion and politics are things I never argue about with people. We all have our beliefs and we think the way we think because we find that way the best but we cant judge others because they don't see it that way. Thanks for letting us know that the rating affects the cents.

I never have pressed the minus button either. I also will just ignore the response if they are rude. I have never gave a negative response only positive ones. People can be so rude at times and that is sad. But like I said I just ignore them and move on to the next.

I do that too, especially because some people like to start a rude discussion because they know that fighting will bring them a lot of responses and more responses means more money.

I think some will negative ratings if they don't agree with another user, and in retaliation, they will give them a negative rating. It isn't right that is for sure, but it does happen. I usually give only positive ratings, as I feel that if they are going to respond and it is quality, they deserve a positive. I only give negatives, if they post referral links in the discussion area, or if they are rude and obnoxious. We are all here to help others and ourselves, and the ones that give negative ratings for meanness, aren't helping anyone, including themselves. I do think though, the rating system is much better than it used to be, as there were many more negatives given out than there is now, and that is a good thing. You can bet that mylot knows who are giving out the negatives too. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

You are right, it isn't right but it happens. Even on this discussion we don't agree all about the way that discussions should be marked but we are all allowed to our opinion. I agree with you, we should all help each other, I am pretty sure that people most of the people here like to help because the truth is helping others we help ourselves too.

I try to use the rating system but a lot of times I just don't remember to. I try and rate positively as much as I can, especially if it's a good comment and the writer has a lower number. I try to help them out a little bit. ;) The only time I will rate negatively is if someone is being overly rude, mean or abusive to other members. I never rate negatively just because I don't happen to agree with what the writer says, only if they say it in a really nasty way. I rate more positives than negatives though.

Hi Lorelai. I am rating only with pluses too. And if I don't like and I am not agree with someone's response I just skip it, or I am posting my comment to him/her and I am trying to explain why I am not agree, but I am always nice with other members and I never write bad things and I never give offense. Few days ago my star rating falls down from 94 to 91 just for a night! I wonder how many peoples rated me with minuses and why - it's not one point - this are three points down... I always rate peoples who has responded to my discussions with pluses, even if I don't like someone's opinion...
