Credit card referrals --- Are you elated or annoyed by them?

Credit card referrals are now commonly done over the phone. When asked where they get your name, they say referrals were from friends, credit association, other banks and from surveys and investigations that they made. Some even offer a pre-approved limit for you.
Being considered to be granted a credit facility by means of credit cards, do you feel these referrals from the above sources make you feel elated and proud to be considered to be someone of high credit worth? Or are you simply just annoyed with this marketing tool?

I hate any company contacting me for any type of business out of the blue,
if I want or need something I will do my research and buy or get the card I want, I haven't had a credit card in years as have no need for one they are just a disaster waiting to happen.
So if anybody rings me up out of the blue offering me anything they get a very short and straight to the point not interested good bye,
or any of the letters you get offering you x y and z I send the application form back in the paid envelope crossed out and no further correspondance is desired on it that way it costs them money for the return envelope.
Really is a bug bear of mine lol as you can tell.

Hi Benny,
I know the feeling. I, too, haven't had a credit card for years. I had a nightmare with it because I have a problem controlling impulse buying, lol. I am glad I am out of it now.
I answer calls for the office. I often get these calls for co-workers and for me, too. It won't take long for them to start selling because I tell them that such things are not allowed in the office. I also tell them that nobody is interested in credit cards anymore because they can no longer pay their debts and with the legal collection cases that they are facing because of it, hahahaha. This makes conversation really short, lol.

To be honest, I am a bit amused how they get my name and offering instant credit card application and approvals. On top of that, they would offer freebies such as the time a big bank offered watches and other stuff.
I politely turn it down because I have a credit card and not interest in acquiring more.

Hi Joseline. It is really surprising how they get our names or contact numbers. Their research team must be very good so that even people who have long retired from the service, they still ask to talk to them, lo. I answer the calls for the office and sometimes they ask for people who have been separated as long as 6 years ago, lol. I guess they get their sources from the other credit card companies' database. Yes, to entice you more, they say that they have pre-approved a certain limit for you. Credit cards are okay as long as you can pay. But despite that fact, it would come out costly for credit card holders as the items become expensive because of the interest charges and annual fees.

It is a useful tool indeed especially for people like you who knows how to control spending and, of course, who knows how to keep their credit standing high. Thanks and have a nice day!

Actually, my bank gave me my second credit card. They get data from employees, referrals and banks, especially when you are of good standing (i.e. long history of banking relationship).
I was supposed to throw it away but my aunt told me to keep it instead. Low annual fee compared to my first credit card (they do not have an annual fee, monthly fee instead and the beauty of it, they will waive it subject to the minimum spending). I am pretty careful not to overuse my credit card.

Hi Gabs,
It is really annoying to receive calls like this. This is especially so at a time that you are so preoccupied with work. It is annoying to know how they get your contact numbers and some information. Sometimes, when you say No, they still ask you if you have also other friends whom you can recommend. It is really annoying but you will always find a way to get out of this situation in a nice way.

These are all aggressive marketing tools. We have to be extra careful not to fall prey to such sweet talks. Better to be on our own.

Yes, I think so, too. Because of the stiff competition of the banking business and credit card companies, they are enhancing their marketing efforts to get clients. It is really annoying when they call and start to talk about getting cards from them. I always find that they "steal" our working time just to answer their calls and help them in their targeted quota in their marketing work. When I answer these calls, I always tell them that we are not allowed to entertain marketing calls during office hours and it is not an official business for the company.

I am annoyed by them. In fact, I am annoyed by everything that has to do with credit cards. I have come to realize in the past year that credit card companies are after nothing except to take your money from you in twisted ways. Actually, both my husband and I decided to get rid of our credit cards last year because the credit card that we've had the longest had its interest rate jacked up tremendously and it really made me upset. I think that for us by going through what we are going through to pay off the credit cards that we had is going to teach us to be much stronger people in the long run.

Hi Dorannmwin,
You are right. I had a bad experience with credit cards and it has been a long time now that I don't have a single credit card. It is giving me some kind of relief not to be stressed when payment due dates arrive. Without a card, I have become more patient. I wait till I have enough funds to buy something which I like. I learn how to priorities my purchases.
