I have it hard these days. I am living on SSI and can't save at all. I have done one thing new this past month. I got a water bottle from a neighbor. I started to save some pennies in that water bottle. if that is all I can save I am going to do it. They add up very fast as well. How about your savings plan?

I am on a limited income due to the fact that my hubby isn't working. I tried to save my change but he spends it faster than I can accumulate it! Guess I will have to start hiding it.

Sorry about your hubby lost a job. There's so many people w/o jobs it's not even funny. I was thankful to get my lil pt job right before the stock market dropped as we were struggling then on one income. I hope the market picks up soon!

We don't really have much of one. We are trying to get out of debt. My husband has signed us up to have $25 taken out of each of his paycheques to save, and he puts the maximum amount into his pension plan. Everything else right now is going toward debt repayment.

oh, and we keep small change in a jar. My husband knows I like to let it build up and then roll it up to take to the bank, so he doesn't touch it.

It's hard for me to save money as well. Unfortunatly with a growing family and plenty of debt we are thankful to pay the bills on time and keep our bellies full. Needless to say the economy isn't helping us either... no raise for hubby in 2009, my hours were next to nill @ my job (where others have said typically people would get close to 20 hrs part time, I get usually 4-12).
My change I usually give to the kids as an incentive when they do good things around the house. And if there's any left after winter I use it at rummage sales as I cannot afford new clothes and such for my kids they are so messy why buy new?
For a while I was setting aside some money in my check book to pay off our van earlier but our checking account is so messed up I had to stop. I'm thinking though of seeing if hubby would put a lil direct deposit out of his check tward this account instead of me trying to figure out the check book.

I would have to say that it is very hard to save money. And these harder economic times don't really have a whole lot to do with my lack of savings - sad but true. I have always been able to budget really well, but I tend to use any extra money for those things that I don't have enough for in the monthly budget - such as clothing, shoes (and that's just for the kids, I never get new clothes except when my mother or sister buys them for me for Christmas). I have tried to save change, but the kids always seem to be able to find my little piggy bank and raid it for spending money. I don't really say much because they don't get an allowance and they are pretty good at completing their chores.
Kudos on your newfound savings plan - something is alway better than nothing even if that something is pennies. Hopefully I can find some way to save soon, I just need to both get motivated and get more creative about it as you have.

It's hard to save money today. Things today are a bit pricey. I can't even earn that much. But I'm still trying. That's right save some pennies in a water bottle. Even though it's not that much but you're still earning. It's better small than to have none at all.
