New year Resolution

I am wondering about all the articles in newspaper, people talking about making a list of to-dos etc etc with the coming of a new year every year.When comes to me, each day is a brand new day with so much unpredictable things waiting to bounce on you so i really don't make to-do list so far for any new year.But i still wonder how much one fulfills his/her new year resolution and also how long one sticks to the list. Is it really important to have New Year resolutions at all?
