its surprising how one's point of view changes dramatically in just 24 hours but when everyone from players to umpires to news channel people continued to pummel the idea that this pitch is unplayable,it does takes a little time to see the other side of the story.
first of all,if it is such an unplayable wicket, why the match even went to the 23rd over?
heck even in the abandoned indore match,it went only for 3 overs. why it took sanga 23 overs to think the pitch is unplayable?
next,if you were watching the news channel, one might have noticed that the so called dangerously rising balls happened only 6 times.
so it happens 6 balls per 23 overs.or only 6 balls out of 138 deliveries rise awkwardly.can you call that unplayable?
next lets look at all the gears batsmen wear these days.helmet, elbow gaurd, chest gaurd, abdomen gaurd, gaurd, thigh pad, pads.
the only parts left unprotected is the shoulder and butt.
if you are good at math ,the you can consider the probability of a ball hitting that unprotected area is way too low to be even considered.
there have been too many occasions where team india bundled out under 100 run marks and even their opposition failed to touch the 3 figure mark.
can one call those pitches unplayable?why dont we ban those pitches in new zealand?
actually i was kinda wanting to see that match because i watched those champions league matches and saw how dificult it is to score runs.just wanna see batsmen struggle for once in this series but it didnt happen.
now to the cowardness?
if sanga really wanted to play that match,he would have asked his players to wear more protective gears and finish the match for the 50000 spectators and more than billion viewers.
but he didnt.
kinda reminds me of the english players who went home after they lost the one day series and used the bombing to abandon the matches and save themselves from a 7-0 defeat.
i am more surprised at dhoni.
why didnt he say LOOK THIS PITCH IS DIFFICULT BUT MY PLAYERS ARE WILLING TO PLAY IN THIS PITCH AND FACE THE CHALLENGE.WHY DONT YOU ASK YOUR PLAYERS TO TAKE UP THIS CHALLENGE AND ENTERTAIN THE CROWD?IS GETTING HURT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAT DISAPPOINTING SUCH A BIG CROWD?
i would have said it if i was the captain.
somewhere along the corners of my mind,i get the feeling that if the modern day players are made to face the ambrose, walsh and all other 6'5" quickies of the old windies side, they might abandon the match and go home.
pathetic to see the top teams not willing to face a challenge.

Very Well Said. Yesterday only we were discussiong about this issue. We guys went for cricket practice (oh well, I am talking about my corporate team which i am a part of) and after the practice ended, we were just discussing the same that the match should have been played. Not for records but it could have been played as a friendly match just to entertain the crowd. You remember, the 1996 World Cup finals? Why didn't Sri Lanka didnt say anything that time about the pitch when India lost to them struggling at 120 for 9. They did not complain about the pitch that time. The case that happened with England is also very similar. These days, teams have been losing their sportsman ship. I would not like to give any commenst on Dhoni. His strategy as team may have worked for the entire team, but I consider him as a very selfish person. He seems to be wearing his attitude all the time.

Hey sorry for these many similar responses. It happened because of slow internet speed. The page would fail to proceed and whenever I would refresh the page, my response got posted again.

Well I would not view this as a cowardness. Just for the reason that the captain had not only think about him self but also for the whole team. this is not ralated to Sangakara, because they had already lost 5 wickets within 100 runs, so it may be tactise to abdondon the match, but on part of Dhoni, he can't force the players to go with the game (though there is nothing hazardnous in the pitch).
Also I think a match cannot played if any particular team disagree to play and term the pitch as unsuitable. However what they could have done, is to go for a friendly match for the viewers.

Yep I also agree with you. Well pointed out. They are playing in international platform, directly??? No way they have also gone through the domestic, semi domestic, gali cricket (street cricket) etc etc.
If they are called to do some risky task for shooting some add they their cowardliness will surely shadowed by the healthy money!!!!!!!!
