Eating fruits and vegetables do really give a healthy body. But, if you aspire to have a body build up like muscles for gain or for total body weight gain. Then I suggest that you must take more foods rich in protein like soy foods, and meats . Foods rich in carbohydrates will tend to increase weight. Have a regular exercise good for your muscles. Sleep at least 8 hours or more. Avoid junk foods and foods that are considered as processed meats. These will take effect in your body for months not weeks only. You must be patient and must have the determination to achieve your goal. Thereby you will know if there is really a problem in your metabolism or just an improper food intake in your weight gain.

You need to eat a balanced diet; and, fruits and vegetables are only part of what you need. You also need grains, meat, and fat to keep yourself healthy. Try to stick with fresh foods and stay away from processed food. For grains; add rice, oats, wheat, barley, etc. You can eat them plain or in the form of noodles or bread. For meat and fat - these usually are found together in the same foods; fish, eggs, cheese, chicken, etc. All of these have both fat and meat (protein). Combining these foods with the fruits and vegetables you already eat will keep you healthy. If you are still "thin and puny" after you get your diet balanced; then. take a look at your family. Are they all "thin and puny"? If they are, it may be genetic and that is hard to beat. You can try to get larger, by overeating and by doing exercises that target the areas you want to get larger. Check out some sites about bodybuilding for the exercises you need to do. Hope this helps.
