I am an avid reader, averaging a book a week for the past 26 years. I just got a Kindle electronic reader for Christmas. I am not sure how I am going to like the feel of the mechanism, compared to a volume. But I was have already downloaded more than 60 books that I can carry with me in one ten ounce "package." I am wondering if Kindle users stay enamored with their reader or it they go back to books after the novelty wears off.

I am not sure what a Kindle electronic reader is, could you explain it to me? As far as I understand they are e-books right? Does this mean that you can copy (download) these books in a portable devise so that you can read them at leisure? If this is correct, I think I would love to have one for myself. Are they expensive?

The Kindle is an electronic device that allows one to download books, bestsellers, classics, over 350,000 titles, to the device. Many of them are free and even NYT bestsellers are only ten dollars. The device is a bit expensive, $250, but the features are pretty incredible. It is a product put out by Amazon.com and you can download the titles from anywhere around the world. Sony has a similar product but after some investigation, my wife believes the Kindle is the superior product.

I don't have one myself, but I kind of know what it is. Like you just described it above. I would like to own one, but I am way too busy to read books right now. I have to be absolutely free from busy schedule, so I can enjoy my book reading.

I doubt it. People might just keep up with technology, and adapt to whatever available to them. just like the hollywood films; our future just full of technological devices to replace our earth limited sources. So, we go forward with technology, and we won't going backward.

So does that mean there will one day be a generation that does not ever hold a book in their hands?

Sorry Erroll, I want one myself and working towards that end, and there is one lady on my Facebook page who is an author and she loves hers. Me, myself, I cannot wait until i join the rest to check it out for myself. But from what I have heard, the users love theirs. I advise you to get the insurance on it so if it breaks, malfunctions or what have you, you can get another.

I am anxious to see how an avid reader like yourself adjusts to the Kindle. Please do start numerous discussion about this topic in the future. I am sure that if I ever receive such a device as a gift I will enjoy it for what it has to offer as far as convience, but I would never be able to give up books completely. I love the feel of a book in my hands way too much!

I'm a wide reader myself, I love reading...I heard of the Kindle Reader and I believe it's totally awesome that they invented this...From the internet reviews regarding this product, the only problem they encounter is they have to charge it most of the time since they used up battery life pretty fast.

I believe that the recent model has improved that feature. I am checking mine now. I charged it for three hours, till the light showed green, on Christmas day. I have been reading from it for the past five days and the battery is only half depleted. I am satisfied so far with that feature.

Interesting question! I am thinking of getting a Kindle myself, but I am a bit scared it would be a waste of money, since I actually do like the feel of books a lot. Isn't there anyone who has been using theirs for a while now? How do you feel about it a bit afterwards?

I have had my kindle now for 6 months and have not lost my joy in it. I still pick up a book sometimes, but the Kindle experience is pretty satisfying too!
