How many times does your baby wake you up at night?

I recently read an article about a 6 month old baby who woke his parents up between 7-15 times each night! I was a bit chocked and started wondering if this is normal. When does the parents sleep? When does the baby sleep? My 3 months old wakes me once a night for a night meal. Before it she has slept for 7-8 hours. After the meal she sleeps another 3-4 hours before waking up for the day. So how many times does your baby wake you on a normal night?

As its been said before, it varies from baby to baby, but my little girl has slept for 12 hours at night since 10 weeks old! We got her in a routine and now she asks to go to bed at 7pm she talks to herself for 5 mins then is asleep untill 7am! She is 16 months old. Little Angel :)

That sounds like a litle angel :) I have heard about other babies doing that too, but they seem to be pretty rare. Thank you for your reply and happy new year to you.

Hi, Nice to meet you. I heard about the similar report. I will marry with my gf next year. First, I think baby's personality relate to parents's Gene. Second, baby was lack of nutrition or hunger. the article is abnormal, is possible.

I agree with you, a hungry baby wakes up more often then one that isn't.

Hello! I have 2 kids already, but i didn't experience that kind of sleepless night to be my baby. My baby before, as i remembered the worst experience when my baby has a cough and cold so i really woke up several times just to be with my baby. When baby is crying something fell the baby bad or may be the baby is not full.

Oh yes, if the baby is ill then it's very possible to have to get up many times a night for him/her. But that is quite understandable and also (hopefully) nothing that goes on after the baby becomes well again.

Mine don't wake me up at all during the night anymore. Of course they are seven and three now. However, when they were much younger, they woke me up about three times during the night for the first couple of weeks. Then it was twice a night. At about age six weeks they started basically sleeping through the night. That was the point at which they started sleeping for 7-8 hours straight then taking a bottle and going back to sleep for another 3-4 hours. I was in heaven when they reached that point.

Hi, what you described sounds much like what my little girl did. It sure is nice when those small darlings only wake you up for food once a night, isn't it?

My 6 month old gradson just had the first time he slept threw the night about a week ago. Normally he will wake up twice a night and goes to bed around 9pm. He is a very good baby very content. I think every baby is different so depends on the baby. I have heard if they have cereal and a bottle before bed they will tend to sleep alittle longer than just bottle fed babys but im not so sure on this.

I have heard that a bit more solid foods make them sleep better through the night, and that was the case with my older child also. I'm not giving my little one anything else then milk yet, but maybe she will sleep all night when she will get other things to eat too. Thank you for commenting and a happy new year to you

I would be exhausted if I would have to wake up at least 7 times every night! At the age your son is I think it's ok if they wake up now and then if they need something, like water or some comfort after a bad dream, as long as it doesn't become a bad habit. Thank you for your response and a happy new year.

I have a baby girl and she is six months old. I am pleased to say that she is now able to sleep through the night. She goes to sleep at 7 in the evening and wakes up at 5, 5 or 7 in the morning. When I come to bed I have to be very careful not to wake her up. I know that every baby is different. Most babies roll over by four months old but one baby I know has only just managed to do that at six months old. Some six month old babies sleep through the night and others wake several times. My baby girl is beginning her weaning. She is not keen on a spoon and she would rather drink soy. She has naps during the day of up to thirty minutes. I think that at three months old your baby is doing the normal thing. The parents that get woken up seven to fifteen times every night by their six month old are an unusual case.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, of course every baby is different, grown ups got different sleeping needs and habits too. I actually never thought about my little one as different until a lot of articles and forum topics about babies that doesn't sleep all the sudden seemed to be everywhere around me. Happy new year!

Well it varies from baby to baby and also depends on when they were born. I mean if the baby is born in the morning generally after 6:00 am they sleep well at night for the first few months. I have seen this happening with 6 of my friends :-). However the pattern changes by a couple of hours as they grow. As they grow and their activities change the sleep also changes. what ever said and done a good sleep really helps them grow strong and sharp.

Both my children were born early morning (02.23 and 04.18)and yes, the first weeks were a bit messy, but they got the hang of the idea to sleep when it's night quite fast. And a newborn wakes up more often of course as he/she needs to eat more often then, let's say, a 3 month old child. Couldn't agree more with that a good sleep helps them grow strong and sharp :) Thank you for replying.
