MORE Snow??? Third weekend in a row with weather alerts.

This is getting old... FAST! The Friday and Saturday before Christmas, we were told to 'Look out!' and got slammed with 33 inches of snow. Last weekend, Christmas day, we got another warning, 'Freezing rain!'. Yep, at least a quarter inch of ice covered everything. Now, we just got another alert for tomorrow morning saying 'Snow, sleet and freezing rain', but it should continue to snow off and on all weekend. Have you been getting a lot of bad weather lately? We're in Virginia and I know we're not the only ones getting all this nasty stuff. So, who else? Do you know where we could buy some rock salt to melt this stuff? They seem to be completely sold out of it around here. I have an appointment with my dentist at 9:45 in the morning, too. I don't want to be housebound again! If you don't know where I could buy some rock salt, do you have a flamethrower I could borrow until, say, March?

Don't worry, mentalward I completely feel your pain. Although I'm up here in MD we are getting the same crazy weather. I was hoping mother nature would let us get through the new year without any yucky weather. But I guess that's just a big hope. Just pray that no more ice comes, thats the only part of bad weather because cars can just drive right on through snow but ice neither car can control what happens. Be safe and Happy New Year.

Hi DD. Where are you in Maryland? I grew up in Baltimore, then moved to Columbia before moving to Virginia a couple years ago. I JUST learned that the advisory has been called off. We're supposed to get snow tonight, then rain tomorrow. No freezing rain or sleet! Yippee!!!! Hopefully, the rain will wash ALL the snow away, even what is still here from the snow two weeks ago. After the past two winters, I was hoping we'd be seeing very little snow but this year sure is making up for those last two, huh? Happy New Year to you, too! Take care.

I'm near the Fort Meade area been here for quite some time coming from PG County. Sorry it took so long to reply, but I was just so excited when the rain came and washed everything away. The only problem I had was on thursday morning when I got up to take my mother to work, it was icing and sleet and it was just cold and terrible outside. That was around 6 in the AM. I haven't told her yet but on the way back to my home I did a 360 on one of the road thank God that it wasn't busy outside yet. But I'm ok now and the car is ok it was just bad. I hope your New Year went great. Have a good weekend.

i have actually been surprised with the weather, usually here, we get storm after storm by christmas, so far, we have had one storm, and right now the only snow that's outside is the dirty snow on the sides of the road, and thats pretty much ice, all the snow is gone, no doubt the next couple months will get a lot worst, but it's kinda weird. Yesterday we were the warmest province in Canada. So odd!

I think we're getting your weather, Gurl. However, I just learned that they've changed our forecast to snow tonight, then rain tomorrow. I HOPE that means no freezing rain, too. We got enough of that on Christmas day to last a lifetime! Still, there's a winter weather advisory in effect from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow. I see they're calling for icy conditions in Washington, D.C. That won't affect me because we're about 90 miles from there but my husband works just outside of D.C. Come on, Spring!!!

All we've gotten is a light dusting. If you give me directions I'll be happy to send my dragon your way. He hasn't been much use around here.

Hi uath. THANK YOU! A dragon would be perfect!!! I could feed him (her?). But, could I keep it until maybe the end of February? February is typically our snowiest month around here. That worries me since we've already had about 4 feet of snow since December started. With a dragon around for awhile, it might chase off (or eat) the wildlife around here that likes to chow down on my veggie garden every year. Wow! A dragon! What a cool pet!!! If it has babies, may I have one? Wow! So much cooler than a flamethrower!

We are heading to OKC and Wichita, I hate snow, you can't drive in it and when you're stuck in it there is nothing to do. It would be even more depressing if it were black snow.

Black snow? You mean black ice? I've never heard of black snow, except that stuff on the side of the roads after a few days of it falling when the plows and traffic have had a go at it. I can drive in snow but I do worry about other drivers. Some people don't seem to understand that you have to drive slower and use a LOT of caution when it's snowing. Braking fast is not an option in snow! Well, not unless you actually want to plow into someone else's car. I'd rather not. LOL I'm pretty sick of this stuff by now. We've had about 4 feet of snow already this month and we still have January and February (and sometimes early March) to go! I'm definitely not a winter person. Good luck in your travels! I hope you don't run into really bad weather, although the entire country has seen their share of it this year. Be safe!

With my luck, I'd move to Arizona and they'd have one of the worst heat waves in recorded history. I've heard that 110 to 120 degrees fahrenheit is not uncommon, at least in parts of Arizona. I don't care if it IS a dry heat, that's too hot for me! Guess I'll just stay here and do my best with the weather we're having. Well, unless it continues into the Spring. Last Spring was so wet I was thinking maybe it was time to start building another Ark. You know, it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't love gardening so much but this weird weather is affecting my gardening plans. I just received 3 new fruit trees (sent in their dormant phase to decrease the stress on them) and they're sitting in my garage right now waiting for the time I can get outside and chisel holes in the ground to plant them. This Thursday is supposed to be above freezing (34F) so maybe I can do it then or, more precisely, get my son to do it for me.

I'm just going to throw this at you...been toying with the thought for some time now, and would like you opinion. Do you think that perhaps...perhaps...that the continued shelling across the other side of the globe, has a baring on our strange weather conditions? I think it does. cdrxo

Hey mentalward! I feel bad for you. Actually, there is barely any snow at all here. It snowed badly for a couple of days. one day of the week it would be bad and then the rest of the week would be sunny and rainy and then the next week would have a another bad snow day and then sunny days and rainy days. But I have not had a seriously bad day that I had to stay housebound. That has not happened to me. It was just an okay snow day. Not too bad, but on the other hand not too good either. It was kind of right in the middle. Also, have you thought of buying a snow blower? I am thinking of investing my online money from mylot and other sites into a snow blower. Then I can do my driveway with ease and also do my neighbors for a bit of cash. I hope that this answers your question. Have a great day and have loads of fun mylotting! Also have a Happy New Year! Hi punjab. We just did buy a snowblower. We have about 50 feet of driveway plus a large parking area, plus a walkway in front of our house. I want the rock salt because, even if we get all the snow off the walkway, it always melts from the grassy areas and runs onto the walkway, then freezes up at night so we have a nice, slick layer of ice covering it in the morning. Plus, our driveway is gravel so we can't get all the snow with the snowblower or we'd be throwing gravel all over the place. LOL Our driveway is rather steep towards the road and we've already had one truck and one car slide on it. Oh, cool!!! I JUST heard that the sleet and freezing rain aren't going to be an issue here, just snow. I can handle snow. They've called off the advisory! Yippee!!! But, still, we're going to get some more snow. I've already seen more than enough for the whole season, but February is typically our snowiest month. I can't wait for Spring! Happy New Year to you, too!

oooh, having a gravel driveway isn't the best. My driveway is made, it's not one of those black driveways. Mine's like the same colour as the sidewalk. I think it's like cement or something so that makes mine easier

You poor girl! I have some salt from last year but no way of getting it to you. I don't need it--yet! Our worst months are January and February, December isn't usually very bad. I'm hoping that it stays above freezing so the roads won't be icy because I'll be going to my Dad's house on new year's day.

Marti, Try the grocery store. They sell it for home water softeners. If nothing else, you can buy it in small containers on the spice isle. Or the hardware store. Don't you have any neighbors with their own little snow plows? Get yourself one for your birthday!! I know, I'm getting carried away. Whatever you do just be careful. You really should check into studded tires. They won't ruinn the roads if you change them after the snow and ice is over. Love Ya Leenie

Leenie, I've been all over the place looking for rock salt. It's sold out everywhere around here. I did buy a smaller bag of it before our massive snowstorm two weeks ago but that was gone in a matter of minutes. I had no idea we were going to get so much snow! I had a tiny bag of it tucked away in a kitchen cabinet for making ice cream and pulled that out but that won't be much good. We used half of that on the sidewalk last Friday with the freezing rain! But, thankfully, the forecast has changed a bit. We're now supposed to get only snow tonight and rain tomorrow. No mention now of sleet or freezing rain. So, hopefully, the rain we get will wash away the snow we get, along with the snow that's still hanging around from two weeks ago. Geez. I may be able to get to the dentist's office tomorrow morning after all! Well, not that I'm really looking forward to it, but, well, you know. It's a necessary evil.

Hey MW! Oh wow not again! We have our temps up a bit so I don't think we will get snow, but you never know! All the snow that we got in the last storm is totally gone because we had alot of very heavy rain so it all got washed away! And as far as I know there are no snow storms headed our way yet! I hope you don't get anymore either! I know that you got socked with plenty the last storm! By the time it hit us it had slowed down and we didn't get anywhere near what was predicted! Have a wonderful and safe New Years! Hugs, Leslie

I have not suffered near enough to get a flamethrower yet but we are supposed to get snow this weekend too. I can't remember the last time we have had this type of weather here. It is so cold.

Thanks for responding to my comment. Well, the rain is continuing here in South Africa. This is supposed to be the "sunny" season in our country, and we're having such weird weather.Parts of the country are having bad droughts, and farmers with dairy cattle are sending them to the abattoirs for beef, because there is no feed for them. In other parts of the country the farmers are unable to plant or harvest because of the high rainfall. The weather is just so "off" for this time of the year. On top of everything, with all the dampness from the rain, everything is getting mouldy. Yuck!

Yes maybe I haven't been frustrated by a lot of snow, indeed I love snow and dream to play with it because it's exciting and funny to have snow, and I spent whole day to play snow with classmates when I was a boy and that time it snowed. Forgive me, even lay down in the bed and tell funny stories one by one is my dream in my childhood, because snow attracts me very much.

that is what we were last year around this time here in Southern Ontario canada. this year, i would say that we have maybe enough snow on the ground to make the grass white (ish) but thats all. it seems that all the snow this winter so far has fallen to the south of us, more in Buffalo, ny than here! (yay!!)

I swear Marti, I'm moving to Arizona!! lol Seriously though, we're thinking about it but only when my parents are gone and not a moment sooner. I couldn't live with myself knowing I left them behind all alone. NO WAY! But gosh, anything has to be better than this sh!t of constant rain or sleet or snow, something of moisture and I'm sooooo sick of it!! ARG!!

Hi, mentalward. I am very sorry to hear that it is snowing very badly where you are at. Maybe you can try looking on the Internet for rock salt and a flamethrower. A company should sell these products. You are in the same time zone as I am and we did not have any snow yet. We usually will have some by Christmas Day or a little after this day. But, there has been no snow yet. If we do have some it will just last a couple of days and the ground will clear up as if we never had a drop. I hope the snow lessens, so that you all can enjoy your life in Virgina. Stay warm and stay safe! Have a Happy New Year!

Man, I know what's that like. We had a ton of snow last year. It really sucks when it snows everyday and it really piles up. I had to use a lot of rock salt to melt it away. My neighbor has a flamethrower and he used it to melt away the snow. I was jealous.
