There are many reasons for someone to donate his blood for medical needs. some are paid for giving blood and some not. Each country has different policies about that. In my country, you have to pay if needed blood. Both the blood is prepared by the hospital or Indonesian Red Cross and the blood you prepare your self (by looking people who are willing to donate their blood) because there is not appropriate blood supplies in hospital. the cost mentioned is for the replacement cost of equipment including blood bags ans syringes. Both cost the same. If you want to donate blood, be it at your own initiative or through social activities, you do not pay or receive payment for donate your blood. How about in your country? Do people get paid for giving their blood or not? How is your Government policies?

How many people donate blood or blood products? Not nearly enough! This is something I care deeply about. In some parts of the USA, people can get paid for donating things like platelets. In my area, we do not. By far the safest source of blood products is from the volunteer donor. That is why it is so important for people to take the small amount of time to donate as often as they can. For those in need, "I don't have the time" or "I don't like needles" doesn't do the job. They can't wait until you get around to it! I'm a volunteer platelet donor with about 120 donations to my name, and I am proud to have been able to help my fellow human beings in such a significant way. I never know who gets my platelets, save that they are very sick and need them desperately. Please make a resolution for the new year to donate early and often. We are so lucky that we aren't the ones who need the blood, let's show our thanks by sharing our good fortune. (Stepping down from the soap box!)

We generally don't get paid for donating blood in India.Although some poor people do manage to get it for free from Government hospitals, most of the times the demand exceeds capacity. Also,it is easier for the ones who can afford to pay for it.Although there has been an increased effort on Government's part to create awareness and encourage blood donation, the majority of people is still hesitant to do it.People find it too unnecessary to trouble themselves for others' need. But not everybody is like that, there are people who know about their responsibility towards society and keep contributing for its welfare..:)

in my country you do not have to pay and you do not get paid for your blood. it sounds rude, but i will never donate blood as i am the biggest ninny ever when it comes to any sort of needle. but now to ask a serious question. how many hospitals and clinics test the bloodthat is donted for hiv or any other serious virusses. can you really trust someone elses blood, when you are in need of any. just asking.

In my country people who need blood should pay for the blood. But they don't pay us for donate our blood. They only give a half-cooked egg and a glass of milk to eat. Blood donation is handled by Indonesian Red Cross or (PMI in indonesian). Oops... I think we're both Indonesian. :)
