The vanity of humanity

Why is it that mankind is so vain that we have to put ourselves above everything else. Man cannot possibly be the top of the food chain, everything else out there if given the opportunity will eat us. From microscopic organisms to lions, tigers, bears, insects, and everything else. From those organisms that specialize in feeding on just one part or aspect of us. Even in death we are either fed to the flames or feeding worms! From the most lowly to the largest, everything we place beneath us will eat us if given the chance! Whenever mankind discusses a possible extinction of most or all of the human life on the planet they always like to sensationalize it by saying. "The end of the world!" That is vanity, there have been numerous extinction events throughout the history of the earth and the fossil record. If mankind were wiped off the planet the world would continue on spinning through space just as it always has. It would not be the end of the world just the end of us. Then the world would have the opportunity to regenerate and heal the wounds of the excesses of mankind. The end of the world as humans know it ramantacized, propehsied, feared, and anticipated but though over 99% of the species that have lived on this planet are extinct we like to believe that the world would end with out the humans. I think that some people are so selfish they would rather the world itself end rather than think that if we were all gone from it that the world wouldn't survive either. The reality is that we are selfishly destroying our world. You don't see other members of the animal kingdom coming up with ways to burn fossil fuels or polluting the environment. Except for mankinds intellect and sense of self we are no better but a lot worse than the simple minded animals that we hold ourself as master of.
