White bread or brown bread - what's your choice

January 2, 2010 7:16am CST
In recent years there was more and more promotion of wholemeal brown bread as the healthier alternative. But in particular kids prefer eating white bread. I quite like both and often made my own bread at home, but a nice crunchy wholemeal bread with seeds and nuts can be lovely. What's your choice?

I don't actually eat bread! Too many carbs. If I have to I will eat wholegrain, the highest grain count I can get with flax in it. It's so good when you toast it up and eat it with soup or something. Usually if I want a sandwich I go for a wrap, it's just so much lighter, which is nice.

i think i'm probably in the minority on this choice since i like brown bread. most people i've known in the past prefer white bread.

I'm more of a brown bread man myself For me, I prefer the texture of brown bread because I find it far less stodgier than white bread. Plus, it just seems more tastier to me. However, my absolute favourite bread is probably wholemeal, peppered with all those seeds. I love it Although I think we will all agree that NOTHING beats home-made bread that you prepared and baked yourself. Delicious.

It tends to have more flavour, that's true. And I agree, home-made tastes the best.

no matter white or brown bread, the most important factor is nutrition.

Yes, but there are nutritional differences between the two.

I also prefer both eating a white and brown bread to give me choices. There are some food when mixed with brown bread are much of better taste. White bread are commonly normal for us to have and eat. But, the nutritional value of brown breads are much greater than white breads. They are said be bromate- free and has less sugar in composition.

You are right, they are doing those half and half breads nowadays, aren't they? I never tried them so far.

I love eating bread and I never bother how many grams of carbohydrates the bread has. I don't like eating white bread because I read somewhere that white bread is bad for your intestines if you eat it everyday and have more than the suggested serving size. I always go for the brown bread. Brown bead has more nutrients and fiver.

taraelocin well I really cannot stomach yucky white bread as its usually gooey and can be squished into a sticky ball. I always look for mulitgrained breads as they are the healthiest you can get and do provide you with vitamins and minerals and good stuff for your body. I like the taste and the feel in my mouth too. I also like rye bread with good sharp cheddar cheese on it. tastes so good.Pumpernickle is also a good alternative but just do not eat white bread. no nutrition in the stuff.

Maybe no nutrition, but it can taste nice. I like to keep a balance between both personally - it always depends what I just fancy.

I don't care for whitebread. The bleached out flour is really not good for us. Plus I don't care for the way white bread feels in my mouth and sticks to the roof of my mouth! I raised my kids on wheat bread so they like it better too. If you wanted to switch kids over to wheat for health reasons, you could start with lots lighter wheat breads and wean them off!

It is meant to be healthier so you are surely on the right track!

Hello taraelocin me too earlier used to have simple white bread since my childhood till now, but recently there had been the introduction of whole grains Brown bread in the market. So now on prefer to have an brown bread instead of white bread as in comparison borwn bread is much good for our health than the white bread, and is also recommended by doctors.Though there is some diff in the taste of both the breads, am still eating on brown bread.Anyways enjoy your breads, Happy mylotting.

There is much more choice nowadays, that is certainly true. And the nicest is if you can vary what you eat.

I do not mind having both but I prefer white bread more. I also like the ones with fruit and nuts.

I like bread with nuts. With fruits only if it is fresh and warm. I sometimes bake it myself.

I personally like white bread but my boyfriend prefers wheat so that is what I buy. I guess I am getting used to it. I do like the nutty grainy breads though. As for a grilled cheese or a peanut butter and jelly i think white is definitely the best. I do know they now make a white bread that is fortified with more nutrients. I have yet to try it but I assume that is a lot healthier than regular white bread. I guess the change to wheat just takes some getting used to.

You could buy white this time and brown next time. Grilled cheese toast is my worst nightmare, though!
