Hi mylotters. Here a while back I let mylotters know that I was going to stop smoking the first of the year. Well I know that it has only been couple of days now but so far so good... no cigs..I am struggling very much so. My husband is suspose to do this with me as well. He is working on it but he had 4 cigerettes yesterday and so far one this morning. The problem is that he is doing this in front of me and in the same room. How do I get across to him hard that is on me or should I just smell it and move on with my own quest...Need your advise..

I will tell you something my friend has done to stop smoke. when he felt the need to smoke he went to run up a mountain. if you dont have that big endurance just go runing or for long walks. he did that everytime and now he stopped smoking for ever so i think you should try this

It would a chore in itself to go for a walk when I got the urge. It is very cold here and I would have to get warm clothes and coat. Maybe I will try that because it would be such a job....LOL

i think anything to get you distracted from smoking will do, but something phisicaly though is even better. and tell to you husband that everytime he smokes a cig he will have to go for a walk with you. that will increase the mood and everything if its dificult going out for walks

Hi. Just want to shared with you. I have a friends who is heavy smokers. Want to know how he stop smoking? It's all about mental strength. He's fall in love with this one lady that doesn't like smokers. In order to win her heart, my friend had stop his smoking habit immediately. Another friend of mine also stop his smoking habit immediately after receiving news that he is having a cancer. For me, mental strength plays an important role in helping a lot of things especially the things that involve habits. :

Too bad, but you can't make him do anything he doesn't want to. Just dig down deep and find some resolve and move away from him if you need to. Good luck!

Hi dawn I have come to realize that If I push him too much that he will just do the opposite of what I want him to do. I have decided that if he wants to smoke then Im not his mom and can't make him stop. I know he will on his own time too..

Ask him to go outside and smoke tell him you are finding it hard to stop with him puffing away infront of you,I am sure he will understand and if he has to go outside it may cut him down as well, good luck with it.

Ya you are right!! It is a little bit tough to stop smoking . But, it is not an impossible thing.See dont stop enjoying the smoke suddenly. It is not that much easy thing to stop all of a sudden. first reduce the number of cigs per day.for example, if you are smoking 10 cigs per a day, then make it as four or five per day for the first week. So, like that yu can achieve your goal.

That is what hubby is doing. He admitted that he couldn't go cold turkey. I think that I just might have to work that way too. I just really need to be strong.. Keep smiling.

Well, thats not really fair of your husband. It is very hard to quit smoking. Can you appeal to your hubbys sense of fairness? Explain that you are trying so hard and dont want to be exposed to his smoking. If I recall, you are quitting cold turkey? What about trying those patches?

Hi jenny I have heard so many stories about people having reactions to the patches that I don't want to give them a try at all. Yes I went cold turkey but now I have back slide. I have had two cigs this morning. I need to get myself back on track somehow. It is harder than what I thought it would be.

Keep typing!! I know it is really hard to quit, I've been trying off and on for years. I had an ex that used to do that to me and I finally just flat out told him not to smoke around me or in the house. Might be a hard habit for him to break, but it might be thee only way to slow him down (especially if it's cold outside) and to help you in your quitting. Have you done this cold turkey? Seems when I come across someone that sees me smoking and lets me know that they quit "years ago" are always the ones that just quit cold turkey. I've tried gum, prescription pills, the patch, etc, etc and so on and I don't think anyone will quit until they are ready to quit in their mind and it sounds like you have had enough and are ready!! Congrats and good luck!!

I quit smoking now for 20month. For me it was easy, I don't know why . I smoked for 25years and just quit cold turkey. My honey stills smokes and it doesn't bother me at all. We go out to the local bar every weekend and everybody smokes there too. I think now that it's all about will power and your own ability to quit. Good Luck and "YOU CAN DO IT"

Well done.I know it is hard to give up and i have tried in the past to give up myself(i did try to give up,i am still having a smoke)my husband gave up,he found it easy with some pills that the dr gave him, where as i could not use the pills as i was on too many other things.I do hope you can do it,the husband said it was the first 2 weeks that he found it hard as the habit of having something in your hand.Keep your hands busy even if it is a pen in your fingers,or better still keep busy on here.Good Luck.

Hello rosepedal64 its just an game of our will to quit and the power to desire, yeah anybody can quit smoking and other bad habbits. But do think that sudden quitting of bad habbits do have an adverse effect on our health.Slow and gradual quitting of bad habbits is recommended byt he doctors too.Acording to me an person must be in rehabilation home or in proper care, under watch while he is quitting any bad habbit.Even interaction with nature and faily, friends helps us with the will power to quit it.You may try out some friends and family members at your home to avoid the hard feelings.Anyways way to go, improve yourself, Happy mylotting.

Hi checkmail That is some very thoughtful words that have hit home with me. I agree on the bad habits being done slowly. Im just afraid that I couldn't do it gradually. I think that my brain wouldn't understand what that meant..LOL

Firstly, congratulations on deciding to quit :] I gave up smoking in July of last year, and the first few days is definitely the worst. If you can get through to next week, then it will be a LOT easier. As for your husband, could you ask him to leave the room, or even better, go outside to smoke? My partner smokes outside now, and since it's so cold, she's cut down as she doesn't want to freeze! You'll be able to smell the smoke a lot more after a few days, and it's not entirely pleasant. If nothing else, why you should have to get secondhand smoke if you're not even smoking yourself?! If possible, you could designate one room in the house that he can smoke in, if he has to leave the room to smoke, then it might encourage him to give up. Good luck!

I think that I just might try that. Right now the temp outside is about 18 degrees and I really make him go out. I think maybe I will send him to the small bathroom that way he can turn on the fan too. Thanks for the suggestions. keep smile.
