bathrooms w/windows

My daughter was looking at houses and she said to me, "Why do so many bathrooms have windows above the bathtub?". I've often wondered this myself when I used to clean houses for a living. If you would buy a house with the window above the tub, why? Maybe to enjoy nature while you take a bath? I am not judging anyone, I just want to know the appeal! :)

I think that windows in any room make a house feel more welcoming, and natural light in a bathroom is very relaxing. It really bothers me when I see that the person living in a house with a window in the bathroom has neglected to hang up curtains.

With reference to your topic discussion, windows above bathtub serves as an exhaust if ever you are using a heater during a shower time. It will also prevent suffocation for the next user of the bathroom. Aside from that, it is the way, how the bad smell will circulate going out from the bathroom.

Do you mean a sunroof or just any kind of window? I am not sure why bathrooms seem to have windows, some bathrooms have bigger windows then others, and some have them in the shower. I guess it's so you can let some of the steam out, who knows, or maybe it's also just for looks? There are some bathrooms with a sunroof, I like that appeal as you can look up at the sky whilst taking a bath!

Yes I often design houses with windows by the bath tub, especially if there is a pleasing view. But its main purpose is for ventilation. If your not familiar, some even located their tubs outdoors but secluded, just to sense the environment around them. Or some prefer sky lights, so why lying on te tub, they cna see the sky.

I have a window in my bathroom to stop water vapours from steaming the place up and to let in a natural flow of light. Of course, the panel is frosted glass to avoid any peeping toms from spying on me My nan has a bathroom with no windows and to me, it just feels wrong because no matter what the time of day is or no matter how bright the sun us shining, it is ALWAYS dark. It's uncomfortable

i don't know the real reason. i am thinking perhaps after a bath or shower open the window to let some air in so no mold gets in on shower curtain and to dry everything up.

Good question but unfortunately I dont have the answer but I will speculate though that it is for ambience . A bathroom with a window allows for a natural light to filter in and make the bathing experience so much better.Alternatively it could be to let off the smells taht are likely to be generated in that room by certain actions

Window is used for room so it is not stuffy, and also the air can get into the room. If there are no windows so you can not get oxygen from the outside environment. You will suffer if the whole room was closed and there is no single hole.

By code one must have either a window or a vent fan. Sometimes the only place to put the window is over the tub. Bad design I think. The last place you want a cold drafty window is over the tub.

That's a very good question. One that I do not really have an answer for. The house just came that way. I guess to air out the bathroom or something, maybe during the warmer months. I have drapes over the window him mine. I guess in the end it was just nothing that I really thought about.

a veryinteresting question my personal opinion is a bathroom without window for privacy but if there are some hot girls next door then a window is perfect(that was just a joke). maybe if you poop then you open up the window so the smell goes out and the house doesnt smell. or if you are taking a bath a lot of vapor gathers and you open up the window for fresh air and a litle colder air too. and yea its an interesting question i have never thought of that one before .

Well in terms of appeal many bathrooms have windows simply to allow for natural sunlight to come into the room. In terms of praticality though, and I'm far from an expert, but, it would be my guess that its to have a source for letting steam and hot air that causes potential damage to the walls, to be let out. Many bathroom do not have very good ventilation systems in them, and having a window would help protect your walls.

I have lived in houses in the past with windows on the wall, not near the tub but more in between the tub and toilet. I moved into my apartment now about six or seven months ago. I have a window behind my tub. It is so big that I have to have a shower curtain over it. And it's not like it has a nice view or anything. It looks out at an alley and the neighbors house. I am not sure the point of this, but I have one!
