Finding the right job

So here i am, a wife and a mother. Previously, I was a wife and a career woman. My life revolved around my job, but hey, things change. My priorities changed. Now I have a small, but very beautiful child to attend to. I want to be around him more and not have him dependant on nursery teachers. I want him to know I am his mum and to do this, I have to be at home more. But I also have to work to keep a roof over our heads. My husband works full time but we have a mortgage and bills to pay, not to mention expensive childcare to pay for.
But its not easy trying to earn a living and be a full time mother. I want a job where I can work from home, where I will be paid a reasonable wage. Alternatively, I would like my own business, but finding the time to set this up is a no no!
So I put it to you, do you think that our governments should be doing more to encourage home working, or encouraging us to set up our own businesses. Perhaps providing cheaper childcare would help or do you think that we should forget trying to be good parents as long as we have a roof over our heads?
Whats your opinion?

i can totally relate to you, only im a single mother with two children. im glad my children go to school now, but im so isolate in this area, that to get to town it takes about 45 minutes each way and there is only one bus a day that gives you two hours in town. so there isnt much chance of finding work that will allow me to work for two hours a day.
Im personally trying to start my own small business, im a designer and a developer for the web.. but its very hard with all the big companies out there..
and im also no good at all the organizational side of things. but for me to try and employ someone to do all the organizational side of the business and the marketing is not something i can afford..
I dont think the government gives us very much support especially when you want to work from home.
What i hate, is when you check out all the employment websites, none of them have a section for legitimate online work.
unfortunately i dont have an answer to this problem, i wish someone did.. im sick of having to join all these apparently "legit" maney making ventures to only be dissapointed in the end..
