What do you do to beat boredom while waiting for traffic lights to change?

Traffic lights change quickly in some areas and take longer in other areas. It is really boring to wait for the green signal. Even with the music playing inside the car, we sometimes experience weariness, listlessness and sometimes feeling sleepy. What things do you usually do to beat boredom or tiredness from waiting for the traffic lights to change?

This is going to sound childish, but believe me it gives you a good laugh, but i hope you can run faster than you can drive. I have this stupid and disgusting tendancy to stick my tongue out at the next cars passengers or i pull the weirdest faces. So far i have been lucky, as almost all of them, did exactly the same to me or they laughed so hard, when the light eventually changes, they cannot get away.

Hi Saphrina, Hahahahaha, it surely is not childish. It is only the child in you acting up. We have children in ourselves and when given the chance, we act like them. I had also done that before (many years ago) but I made sure to stick my tongue out as soon as the light changes. Sometimes in the past, I did this on the way to the province which is about 300 kilometers from where we are in the city. Along the way, when the car was in motion, I either sticked out my tongue or waved at people on the streets. I could see the astonishment on their faces, lol.

It's always music and only music for me. If I am driving the car then I have to have the radio on. I always listen to country music when I am in the car and when I have the music on in the car then I am also singing along with the music. So that is the way that I am able to beat being bored while I am sitting at traffic lights and it is also the way that I keep from getting tired while I am making a long trip as well.

Hi Dorannmwin, Music is the language of the soul. It is good to know that you love music. I am sure you are good singer, too, aren't you? My oldest son drives the car. When I ride with him, I do not enjoy his type of music, lol. It is loud and noisy for me --- my age is showing, lol. I always turn the volume down and then he turns it up again. As a passenger, I do other things while waiting for the traffic light to change. Usually, I delete messages in my cellphone.

Hi Gabs, True, we do that at times. Sometimes, our eyes are fixed to the lights but then our minds are wandering, lol. There are so many thoughts that enter the mind. There are things that you are trying to remember to do for the day. When this happens, all we hear are horns from cars behind us, signalling us that it is time to go, lol.

Im one of those people that adore music and can spend my day doing nothing but singing along so the music entertains me enough that I usually don't mind. If I do get bored I watch the other set of lights...when they turn red I know I'm about to be able to go. :)

Hi HansonFan, You have a good attitude and it surely doesn't matter if you had to wait for the light to change. With good music from the car stereo and singing along with the music, that should be fun. It would not put you on stress because you enjoy every minute of it. My son does this, too. He sings along with the radio and even taps his hand on the wheels as if to create his own accompaniment, lol.

i think that i have intoleration to wait the green signal.although i feel bored during waiting, but i still notice the traffic lights to change and hope that i can leave quickly and dont want to wait a minute.

Hi Bingchen, It is true. When we are in that situation, we can only wait for the traffic light to change. It maybe boring but we need to wait. We need to observe traffic rules and regulations. When there is nothing to do, we only fix our gaze on the traffic light, being keen and observant when this changes.

Hi! I do nothing. I just sit and waiting for the green light. I look at the other cars...

Hi Nautilus33, Yes, most of the times we just do that. We just sit and wait. Sometimes, the lull gives us time to think of things to do for the day. Sometimes, it makes us recall past events. Or sometimes, others make use of the time to wipe their dashboards or windows, lol. Thanks for sharing.

I just wait it out. Luckily, most of the time when I do drive, I catch all of the lights. I do agree that it can seem like forever when you are waiting for a light to change. Even though it is merely just a couple of minutes.

Hi Megamatt, It is true. It seems like eternity waiting for lights to change. This is especially so when you are in a hurry to get to the office or school or to where you intend to go. Sometimes, our attention get distracted by the news from the car radio which we always listen, too especially in mornings. Other times, the radio is playing music.

lucky enough here where i live the lights don't stay red for very long, so the longest i wait is like 5 mins, but there was one day where the lights were out, and everyone was trying to go so for a while i was sitting in the car, pretty much all i did was listen to the music, and watch the cars drive pass, i like looking at other cars, and stuff, so there isn't much to do, but i zone out

Hi Lightdiamond, With music inside the car, it helps waiting time worthwhile. As a passenger, I also engage in conversation with my oldest son who is driving. Sometimes, I talk with the other two children who are seated at the back seat regarding their concerns in school. Now that the two older children have their profession and have their own work, we don't have time to ride together. It is only on Sundays that all of us have time to be together. When this happens, we joke and talk about anything waiting for traffic light to change.
