There is a saying "Rules are to break". What you say?? Is it true. In my opinion, rules must be there and should be followed to some extent. If there should be a situation to compromise, then it should be compromised. Here is an instance. I was late for one day in paying the rent this month. I couldnt pay on the date since I was out of station. The day I reached home, I went to pay the rent. The office told me to pay an additional amount of 50$ as late fee. In such a situation, that being my first time, they could have compromised. What is your opinion? Did they do it right or they could have compromised to maintain the customer relationship?

The rule of the thumb is you must respect the law. So in this case, a penalty charges for late payment can't be avoided. It may strain the relationship between the tenant and the landlord but you have breached the contract by paying up late so they have every right to demand for late charges.

But more than rule, there is a mental relation between the customer and the office. There should be some compromise so as to maintain the relationship. Everything should be tackled friendly.
