This is either going to be very popular or left alone! Do you love Eastenders?

Not everyone loves soaps and some people really hate them. Well, I guess I'm going to admit it, I love watching Eastenders! I never used to keep up with the soaps but there comes a time when you start watching something and the characters start to grow on you! Has this happened to you? Do you like Eastenders or do you go for another soap like Coronation Street and maybe Emmerdale gives you the kick you need? Well, I like other things too like regular cycling but I do love to relax with a hot brew and the next episode of Eastenders! Andrew

My family all watch it and seem to enjoy it. That's all I've ever seen of it really, when my family are watching it. It's okay I guess but nothing I would actually make the effort to sit down and watch it

Once upon a time I had no interest in Eastenders whatsover and I used to ridicule a friend for watching it, in a nice way of course! I don't know what happened to make be become suddenly interested but I really enjoy Eastenders now and it helps to pass the time during the evening hours. My life doesn't revolve around Eastenders though! I like watching other things like Sky News, that's an important channel to me. Eastenders is not on tonight in any case so it will be Emmerdale tonight! Andrew

That's very interesting. You're from the U.K. right? I didn't know that you people also referred to those shows as soap operas or 'soaps' as they are affectionatly known. LOL!
If that is the case, then..............
When I was younger and living at home my younger sister loved to watch the soap operas and I only watched them because she loved them. After awhile you do get hooked on the characters. Anyway, when I finally moved away from home I haven't watched a soap opera since. So, I guess I would say that soap operas are not my thing. To me they have too much drama and crying and problems in the show and my life has always been too much like that. They're just too depressing for me.
Happy New Year!!

Yes, I guess they are called soaps, quite funny really when you think about it! Still, I'm definitely addicted to Eastenders and yes, there's definitely a lot of sadness and doom and gloom story lines involved. I like the fact that it's based on real life and I suppose I can learn a few things when watching this program. The characters are like family to me now as crazy as that sounds. Anyway, it's not on tonight so I guess it's a bit of Emmerdale tonight! Andrew

LOL. I've seen this show a couple of times, for about all of 5 minutes, but I never really understood what was going on..Nor did I understand the British slang the characters used, so I get thoroughly confused every time I see this on TV. It's kind of funny to watch me struggle when watching it. I am hopelessly addicted to other shows on TV, namely crime dramas like Law & Order SVU and NCIS. It's a different obsession than the one you've got, but I figured I'd throw that out there since I really haven't contributed at all to your discussion.

I like the Mitchells in Eastenders! I too love those crime dramas you speak about, Law and Order is probably my favourite out of the lot! No, all contributions are welcome!

Hello, Andrew. Sorry, I'm a 'Coronation Street' girl. I even took it as a specialist subject on 'Mastermind' a couple of years ago. 'Eastenders' is too depressing for me. At least in 'Corrie,' there's always some light relief to temper the doom and gloom. I'm in a minority, I know, but on the odd occasion when I've been in someone else's house and it's been on, it seems like it's all shouting and sh*gging to me!

I don't mind coronation street either but I probably watch Eastenders a lot more! There does seem to be a lot of doom and gloom in Eastenders but I do like some of the story lines! I like the fact that they try to base it on real life and at the end of the show when there has been a traumatic scene they always give you a number to ring if you have been affected by any of the issues in the program! It's just such a regular thing now and when you watch it so much it's like you suddenly enter the families and become one with them! Oh well! Andrew
