Snow pea leaves

Last night I had dinner with a friend at a Chinese restaurant I had never been to before that had a very extensive menu (must have been at least 10 soups!). My dinner companion recommended the snow pea leaves which are sauteed in garlic and similar to spinach. (We also ordered the cashew shrimp) I have never seen them on a restaurant menu before and did not know you could eat them. I would never even have thought of eating them even. The snow pea leaves were very good! I wonder why they are not offered on more restaurant menus. It's nice to discover new foods and new places to eat.

Didn't know snow pea leaves were edible. It's great when you can try new foods. It's even better when you are able to find it in a store where you can make it yourself if you have a craving. LOL

He was here until about 11 last night! The heater coil was replaced but he didn't get to the wheel.

I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner out. I'm assuming that the snow peas in leaves are more expensive that way. They are the tenderest peas and a healthy choice when it comes to eating and especially eating out! I love the way Chinese green beans are served too, whole in the shell. Great way to get some fiber in your diet and tasty also!

It was not the snow peas, only the leaves. I like snow pea pods but I had never known you could eat the leaves.

Oh how weird! I've never heard of this but then again other vegetables like turnip greens, mustard greens, collard greens are leafs. And grape leafs are also edible and of greek culture. So I guess this is just another edible leaf!

Yes, it makes me wonder what else out there has edible parts that we do not use.

I enjoyed having them but my friend said that they were not prepared the same as when he had eaten them in the past and that the times he had it the dish was better. I will have to venture there again in the future to see what happens.

I've had snow peas, but not the leaves. I love greens, though, so yes, I'm sure they were delicious. You're right, it's wonderful to find new and delicious foods or to try out various restaurants.

I like spinach but not all greens, the rest are so bitter! Also here people put pork in the greens quite often and I don't like that. Greens are very nutritious though so it is nice to have another option!

I love Chinese food but have never come across snow pea leaves before. I have a friend who is a brilliant cook and for Chinese New Year this year he cooked us dinner. It was wonderful, with appetisers of sesame toast, spring rolls etc; a starter of fresh crab in a mild chili sauce; and then lots of main courses of pork in sweet and sour, a whole bass, noodles, prawns, lamb in something delicious (can't remember what!)etc etc. It was one of the best meals ever. Anyway, now I've made myself hungry! I'm going to try to track down snow pea leaves and sautee them in garlic (which I love). Thanks for bringing back happy eating memories!

I have been wanting to go to a Chinese restaurant that was different from the one I usually frequent for a while now. I have wondered how authentic the chinese food is at the place I usually go. It is so different from the rest of Asian cuisine. I love sushi and I enjoy vietnamese food. I have a beautiful cookbook on the food of Indonesia and the Phillipines. When the kitchen is finished I will be asking you for cooking advice!
