Do you use Ointment as an alternative medicine?

I believe that ointment originated from chinese medicine. If I have light headache, stomach pains, insect bites I used white flower ointment. It can relieve my pains slowly together with proper rest. As much as possible I dont want to take tablet, capsule medicines as long as I can handle the pain. I always think of the side effects it will give to my body. So as much as possible I want to take natural and alternative medicine. Do you use ointment to relieve your pain? Or you'll just take tablet/capsule pain reliever instead?
