So says my friend in a conversation we were having while coming to work one morning .That means no to the Cherry QQ,Honda Fit ,Prius .Her concern with these small cars is that they dont always do well when you meet in an accident.I see where she is coming from but I wa strying to point out that these cars are energy efficient .
What is you take on this issue ?

As far as I am concerned, I think a small maybe some convienent for us . I think a small car can be in our daily life. But maybe some small cars can not match some people's wishes. They just want to a larger car which may be faster bigger to hold more friends.

Ronnyb I can see that you are talking about me; (lol) because it so happens that I have a small car. They are energy efficient but when you engage in fast driving sometimes it comes as though you are lifting off the road. My present can does not give this feeling now because it is a top of top of the line brand.

I don't blame your friend at all. I feel the same way. Those tiny cars scare the crap out of me. I may be a good driver. But that doen't mean the other driver is. After being rear ended I would drive the bigger and more safer vehicles....Fuel efficent maybe good but it makes me think really how good can it be if you get in a wreck and die?

I don't drive. I don't have the temperament for it.But If I did, I would want a Hummer with a horn that yelled " Get out Of My Way!"

My personal preference is a small car...like a Ford Focus, or a Jeep, or a Pontiac Vibe (which I really really want)....several of my uncles/aunts have large SUV vehicles and the gas guzzlers that they are I could never afford along with the insurance that goes on them.
I am a petite female, so the ideal of getting into them and driving kinda scares me....
but for storage they say they are good....
I guess to each his own, but for me I prefer the smaller vehicles.

For within the city commute, I would rather have a small car. They are in fact more energy efficient. If you don't drive by the highways often, then a small car would suffice. At least you know that if you get into an accident, the speeds are within the limits, which is also the speeds where these small cars are tested.
Why drive a big car, when you're by yourself always?!

Depending on which smal(ler) car you are pointing out, some are saving then others if they were to collide in an accident. Being a good driver does not allways shield you from these troubles as you have a lot of other people on the road that could run into yóu aswell. Small cars are energy efficient though and better for the environment. Depending on the design small cars can be quite save in an accident aswell. I would look up reviews on the subject and test results of well known organisations to be able to make a well based decision.

I feel the same as your friend about some of the really small cars. I believe if the dashboard is right againt your legs when you are driving there is no doubt your legs will at least be broken in an autombile crash. I see large people driving small vehicles and I truly believe it cannot be safe for them if they are in a crash.

Your friend sounds like my mother! LOL She used to hate small cars too when I was younger. I remember when my parents were still together and my dad wanted to buy my mom a Bronco II. But my mom didn't like it at all, she wanted the full sized Bronco instead! In the end they didn't get either! LOL
Now that I think of it the smallest car she had when I was growing up was a '79 Cadillac Seville, and for her that was small! And here these things have a V8 motor in them too. What's funny though is that now my mom drives a little Ford Escort. I never thought I'd see the day, but after she remarried some years back she finally gave in to driving a small car. I guess she didn't have a choice, seeing it was her husband's and it is the only vehicle that they have! LOL
I personally like mid size cars myself. They aren't so big that they are difficult to park and they aren't so small that I feel like a sardine in them. However, for fuel economy I wouldn't mind a Prius.
Your friend does have a point, but any car can become a tin can if met with an accident, especially when speeds are so fast. It's really just a matter of chance sometimes, no matter what kind of car you're in.
Happy mylotting!

I drive a smaller car - not one of the smart cars those VERY small.
I like my small car, its good on gas and my original neon did VERY well protecthing me when i hit a bus...it fell to peices and i walked away without a scratch after hitting a city bus, a parking meter, a telephone pole and a tree.

In England small cars cost so little to road tax only £35 a year. Our car has to be bigger as we tow a caravan and sometimes we take other members of the family around with us namely the grandchildren and those car seats take up a lot of room.our car costs over £200 a year in road tax. Most of the small cars are quite sturdy and like you say can run on electric or are just more economical with fuel.Given the choice I would have a smaller car but it is not practical at the moment.

Hello my friend ronnyb Ji,
Well, sorry to dis-appoint you but I have crossed that age, when I could drive, now my sons may drive and we have only one car without any second option.
May God bless You and have a great time.

We have both a small car and a big car. My husband wanted the bigger car because he said it would hold of better if we were in an accident. It is the car that we use if we are going out of town on a trip.

With the growing population and traffic, small cars are the ideal one to choose. You can easily handle it in a busy road and it needs less clearing space.about the security, well, you can always go for the costly one in that segment which includes all safety measures.Just the basic models sucks.

Hi ronnyb! Size of car doesn't always matter when it comes to safety. I don't know which country are you from, but if you are from Europe then you've surely heard of NCAP test which is a crash test that rates cars by stars. Maximum number of stars is 5 and it means that the car is very safe (at tested speeds). They are rating front hit safety, side hit safety and I think pedestrian safety (although I'm not sure for pedestrian safety). The cars you mustn't choose are Chinese ones as they provide almost no safety (you have bigger chances to survive truck hit while you are on a bike then car hit when you are driving Chinese car). Sad, but true... New Mercedes Smart is very safe, very efficient and pretty much safe...
Nice discussion, happy mylotting and take care!
