social networking sites

Hi friends. As we all can see, there are many social networking sites in the web now. The very first social networking site that i heard about was Orkut. Most of my friends were already members there and pestered me to join. But i hesitated very much, because i exactly did not know what is the usage, as i was not open to these kind of things then. Then finally join two years back. But after that, I started seeing in a broader mind and explored the usage of those sites. Now I very frequently visit orkut more than any other sites. Not just students, one day, I saw one of our college head of the departments, in the site. He's known to be the strictest person. I was quite taken aback. But he uses it for discussions on subject matters. A few weeks back I also read in the paper, that many school and college teachers are also enrolling them in those sites, not just to discuss, but also to have a check on the students activities on the sites. Now I'm a member in many sites, such as, orkut, facebook, hi5, tagged, zorpia.. List just goes. I used discussion forums to get guidance for my project and now continue to use them to get updates about various companies and associations. So,in how many social networking sites, are you a member?? And for what purpose do you visit them?? Just to make new friends and chat with them or you also do something productive??
