My cakes come out sunk in

Before you pull it out of the oven, do you use a toothpick to check to see if it is done? Just insert a toothpick into a couple different spots. As long as it continues to come out clean, the cake is done. If the cake isnt cooked all of the way, it can sink and be too gooey and gross as it cools.

Whenever this happens to me, it's because I've been opening the oven to check the cake too much - then it sinks, and I look like a t*t! That, or it's not in for long enough, at a high enough temperature... Not sure if it's the ingredients you're using - if you're following a recipe, I guess not. Cakes can usually be salvaged. Turn it into a doughnut cake, if the middle sinks, and fill it with another cake, or some fruit, or some cream.

hi java sounds to me like you got impatient and pulled the cake out of the oven before it was actually done.use a toothpick,if the toothpick comes out with gooey stuff on it, shut the door and let it cook some more. then check it as the tooth pick should come out clean. if you bake from scratch be sure you measure the ingredients correctly and follow the recipe exactly as it is written then bake at least the minutes you are told to bake it,using the toothpick trick for doneness. if it come out perfectly clean take the cake out of the oven and let it cook on a rack so air can get to it on all sides top and bottom.
