Freddy Snoozing on the Recliner - My new kitty Freddy lounging on my recliner, it is a favorite spot for kitties, I never ever get to sit there.

This year my Christmas seemed to go to the cats. My family adopted/rescued two kitties this holiday season. One was a cat that showed up at my brother's home over the summer. Freddy as my father named him had been declawed and then dumped as a kitten. None of my family besides me, has indoor kitties due to allergies. So I was talked into (not that it took a lot of persuading) to adopt Freddy and bring him back to California with me (my family lives in Arkansas). He traveled very well and is now hashing out territory issues with my other two kitties. My parents also took in a new kitty, Molly, a calico, that a friend of my sister's had nursed back to health. They couldn't keep it so my folks took her in rather than let her go to the pound. She is a sweet kitty that I am sure they will enjoy having. Do you have any Christmas pet stories to share. Lets have some good news for a change.

we actually took in 3 nov-dec. 2 came from a friend losing their place, and the third we had been keeping an eye on outside. i had a strong suspicion she was dumped from the house behind me(an eviction),and sure enough, she was.10 pm one night she was on my porch curled up in a tight ball trying to huddle from the cold.i got an extra bowl of food and opened the door and before i finished saying "would you like to come in",in she came. she was dirty, starving and thirsty..and now is clean & shiny...and very grateful :) now i have 6 and they are working out their pecking order, but 1 of the first two rescues is being picked up in march for a new life in philly as soon as the friend is reestablished.

Its great that you are helping out. So many kitties are being abandoned because of evictions. I figure thats what happened to Freddie. He is such a darling, house trained and lovable I can't imagine him being turned out for a personality problem.

#6,the last rescue is starting to come around.this past week she's been doing random chatter while exploring the house which is a good sign she's happy. she's still a little afraid of the boys, but she's not hissing like she was,so i think she's getting used to them.

under the tree - my cat sleeoing under the Christmas tree.
Last Christmas, my cat climbed on the small Christmas tree. He was halfway through when my cousin noticed and shooed him down. The second time he was more than halfway and the tree swayed. The third time he climbed the tree came down and most of the decors fell down. Two new angel figurines were broken and we had to laugh because the cat was so scared that it ran fast out the door. So we had to fix the tree and I had to place heavy stones underneath so it won't budge. Then the cat content himself to sleeping under the tree when the tree was still bare or without the gifts. And sometimes he would play with the decors hanging nearest the floor.

My kitties didn't really bother the tree. I was surprised. One of my girls, Ashley, took to hiding beneath it as I don't put gifts under my tree because I actually celebrate Christmas with my family in Arkansas at my mom's house.

Well, no cats this year, but back in 06 we ended up getting 7 cats dumped on us between early Dec and early Jan. We placed 3 of those cats along with ALL of the other cats we rescued in 07 and an additional 2 we already had looking for homes. all told, we placed 15 cats between Feb 07 and Jan 08. Since then we've only taken in 6 more and the most adoptable one of those has a great home and the least adoptable went to be a barn cat. We still have her 3 very feral kittens in the house, but they aren't hurting anything and they are spayed and fixed. That was all done before Dec 1st.

If you can count virtual pets as having them, Aurone, I now have 6 kitties and 3 dogs by virtue of online games. My favorite is Smooches. I also have a pet mouse(of all things), and I'm not at all afraid of him as with the real thing. I'm glad that your family is doing their share to help the animals.

My cat Jason really likes sitting underneath the Christmas tree, but other than that I can't recall that the cats did anything unusual this Christmas. The group I volunteer for had a lot of adoptions over the holidays though, even one on Christmas day, so that was pretty cool.

Hi Aurone,,Don't have a cat christmas story of my own this year although last year I rescued a whole litter out where I keep my horses. They were born in the hay loft and their Mom was killed by a car what seemed to be the same day I found them. I was able to find homes for all, its easy to place a kitten, and gave one to my best friend who appropriately named her CC..(Christmas Cat) so its cool that I get to see her all the time and will report that she is big and fat now and so very loved..I have dogs now and rescued two just 3 months ago so we enjoyed out first Christmas with our new additons who got lots of gifts and have brought so much love to our house that I can't even begin to tell you. I love your story and love Freddys picture all sprawled out on the chair like he owns the joint..so typical of a cat..I'm sure they will all adjust to one another,,sometimes it takes longer than other times, but rest assured, they will learn to love one another as they grow together...Best of luck and Happy New Year..J
