my fellow filipino mylotters, the subject pretty much explains what this discussion is for.
i understand that both have not abused nor taken advantage of the pedigree that they both have belonging to families that have much social and political clout but it got me thinking if we are giving too much weight or their surnames alone without considering their actual achievements while they were part of congress/senate. i was able to watch one of the segments of the evening news a couple of nights ago and it was about the support center for noynoy located at cubao. it seems that the noynoy campaign is resorting to selling different items that such as shirts, pins, scarfs/scarves, handkerchiefs bags, and whatnot bearing the image of both ninoy and cory aquino. also, the website of mar roxas shows both senators ninoy aquino and gerry roxas as if sending us a subliminal message that voting for noy and mar is as good as voting for these two distinguished gentlemen. also remember about one of the things that manny villar said and this has been harped on in his many political ads, manny villar is his own man and when you vote for him, you are voting on his perceived achievements not that of his parents. let me be clear that i haven't made a decision yet as to who i will vote for this coming elections. although, i did mention in one of my posts that i'm inclined to choose anoother candidate, no, not mentioned here, as my pick for president, lest i be accused of favoring one candidate over another and stating a discussion about it. lol!!!
anyway, i want to hear everyone's thoughts on this one.
...and remember, you're not sharp unless you're scott sharp!!!
cheers!!!!

We never know what will happen if one of them win.
I'm just disappointed that now a days people are totally engrossed with money.

Lets just face it, politics in the Philippines is just like showbiz where the popular candidate has the upper hand. Personally i don't see anything wrong if they sell things that would be used for their campaign since people at least got something in return. What i hate is when a candidate uses government funds for their campaign and claim it as part of the machinery. Bottom line is, a politician has to find something that will work to his advantage. I don't blame Roxas and Aquino for using the names of their parents because their parents are great politicians to begin with. And as Filipinos, we take pride on who are parents are. I'm sure their parents would be as proud of what their sons are doing if they were alive right now. The burden is for people to see what is truly behind the smile and promises that would eventually make the difference. Cheers!

hi ybong!
i don't see anything wrong with aquino supporters selling memorabilia to come up with campaign funds. i, myself, would like to purchase some of the shirts and pins that they are selling. agree with you about your comment about politicians using govenrment funds to serve their own personal needs. we need not look far to coem up with exmaples, phillipine politics have a lot to show for corrupt politicians.
about roxas and aquino, using their names, i was asking if we are giving too much credit for it and not looking at the achievements of each candidate. just this past weekend at a presidential forum, noynoy got blasted by villar and gordon about achievements made while in government. villar has pointed out his success in his business and his actions in congress and the senate while gordon mentioned his achievements as mayor of olongapo, as a subic administrator, and as senator. not to mention his work with the philippine red cross. noynoy has nothing to show for for his tenure as congressman and senator. or at least nothing that is page worthy in our daily broadsheets that it has gone unnoticed. funny thing is, noynoy as one of his achievements cited his stint with nike. in an article that came out at the website of phil daily inquirer, noynoy did say that he was instrumental in makign nike popular when it first came out here in the philippines. not so sure what noynoy meant as the article did not further elaborate on that but i'm sure noynoy did not became an endorser of the famous apparel similar to that of kobe, tiger, and pacquiao. lol!
anyway, it is ture that the state of philippine politics is indeed sad and it is/it has become a popularity contest. hopefully, we learn our lessons from our previous mistakes and vote differently this 2010.
cheers!!!

It's sad but it's the truth. Philippine politics is about popularity and i think this hold true everywhere in the world. The only difference is, voters from other countries are intelligent enough to know the difference between being popular and being effective as a politician or both. Here, a lot depends only on what they hear on news and on their peers as basis of their votes and will not find time to actually make a research on the candidate to vote for.

i'm pretty sure one or both of them had thought about this as no class at all but they might have also thought that one of them is going to do this anyway so better yet they might as well talk about their parents' legacy just to be on the safe side of outnumbering the other on talking all things positive about themselves.

hello allen,
I don't know but i guess they won't put much of a fight or competition if they're parents aren't that popular at all. besides, that's how they got so high in the recent surveys. unfortunately, i won't vote for them since noynoy didn't really had a good chance of passing any laws during his past jobs, it's really dangerous when you vote some one who has less achievements and merely caring the names of their parents.

hi lk!
exactly the points being raise by the opponents of aquino. he has nothing to show for his stint as congressman of tarlac and as senator. aquino, hasn't given a credible reply to these points as well. anyway, i'm anxiuosly waiting for his reply to this one and see how he handles it. i'm quite tired of hearing that he offers change. i think all candidates offer change, not so sure though if it is change for the better and for whom.
cheers!!!
