Zero was a problem for the Ancient Greeks right from day one. Somehow it didn't seem add up for them. No matter how many they added, they still came up with nothing. How could nothing be something? But That was Nothing- because their number one question was, Is one really a number? Every one of us is concerned with numbers and most of us have a favorite. My number one favorite of is 7. I don't know why I feel so good about 7, but its always been my favorite number. Care to share your number one favorite number?

I do remember early in my education I was taught that 3 and 7 were God's numbers, I can't remember the lessons just the numbers. My early education was given me by Catholic educators. There must be a clue there. I like 7 also.

I can understand 7 being God's number as listed in the Bible, 7 days of creation, 7 years of famine, and 7 of plenty, 7 loaves multiplied into 7 baskets, 7 virtues, and 7 deadly sins, and the list goes on and on. There seems to be a good reason why most of us like the number 7, I will be the first to admit I had no idea about this until I began to research it.

hi barehugs I have not thought much about it and what the heck is my lucky number if I do have one, unless its ten as I always feel a year with an even number always turns out to be full of good things while the odd ones usually are full of unpleasant things. superstition or just observation.

There is certainly something to be said for the even-numbered Years, although I can't (for the life of me) think of what it might be. By the way, thanks for the response!

Cool post. I can understand how the Ancient Greeks would have been confused about zero. I would have expected the debate to be more about whether zero was a number rather than one. But if one was also a brand new concept then maybe that could have been confusing too; perhaps they thought that there was no need to quantify something until there was more than one of them. My favourite number is also 7! To be honest I think that 7 is probably most people's favourite number, as it's widely considered to be a lucky number. I've always tended to favour odd numbers in general, I'm very much an odd-number person!

The number 7 has long standing religious and mythical associations, like the seven wonders of the world, and the seven seas, etc.

Yes, that's interesting. I guess good things must come in sevens!

this post has some really interesting fact in it. I also really like 7 and don't know why. I guess it just feels right, solid, like a good number, If I see a 7, I automatically feel good about that 7, better than 9 or 3.

Yes there is a special magic in seven. Like the seventh son of a seventh son is supposed to have a magic all of his own. 3 and nine are (sad to say) missing out!
