Why "Clubs" are called also ??? Is the a real meaning to call them also???

This is a bizarre question ...indeed =P But I'm confused.. clubs are like places where people meet to share a common interest right?? but in many cases those interests are like , history , sports , art... etc. why is a club , and by club i mean a night club or disco club called also ... Thanks for your time and understanding , I hope i'll get some good answer to my not so well explained question =D
