I know I have a problem with depression even though I haven't been told so by a doctor or anything. I have bad days and then I have great days. sometimes I just feel like I don't know what to do with myself... I question everything about myself when I feel down. When I don't feel good and my depression is setting in it takes a huge chunk of confidence away, I question everything i am trying to accomplish, if i can do it, and I start feeling like I cant do anything. When I feel like this I don't know what to do, I just lay around and feel aweful even my muscles hurt. I am not a fan of meds, so i wont take them. What do you do to deal with depression?

It is difficult to tell depression by yourself. It takes a trained psychologist to diagnose one or a psychiatrist to treat one. I believe all of us have both gloomy and sunny days...it depends. One day, we might have woke up at the right side of the bed, or some days, at the left. Kidding aside, it might be something to do with the weather or it simply is just about not starting the day right - our routine might have been disturbed or we badly want things to go our way.And when we start to feel down, we lose all our zest for any activity. True, we sort to different stuff - blame, doubt and so on. As a result, we become crippled - too paralyzed to do anything because we simply are not in the mood. When I get depressed at times, I talk it out - I find somebody to talk with or simply talk to myself. If I get tired of talking, I pour it out through my writing. At least nobody tries to ever give me any unsolicited advice... and then maybe later on, I feel a little better. It takes time for me to recover but these two things are what I usually do. Because if I keep my depression bottled up, then I'd better take the meds. Just my two cents...

When I am depressed, i try to find something good and happy to focus on. This usually takes care of my dilemma at the time. Sometimes it just takes a little extra effort to get through.

Hey Ambitiously! I think that only you know what you are truly feeling and thinking! I have been diagnosed with Major Depression and am on meds for it, but I am much older than you and have had many issues in my life and reasons that have made this come about. Depression is not something to take lightly or that you can just say you have! You can just feel sad sometimes and not want to do things, but to have a depressive disorder it takes sometimes years to realize that and serious therapy with good doctors who will come to that conclusion! It isn't something that comes out overnight and it doesn't go away any quicker! It is something that needs to be worked on and it isn't easy! So, if you think that there is something wrong with you, go get yourself diagnosed now! Don't wait like I did until things got way too out of hand! Take my word for it, the earlier the diagnosis the quicker the fixing!

The reason I say I have depression and am just not feeling sad sometimes is because my mom and sister both have been diagnosed with depression, not major depression but both have been put on depression meds, my sister I think never gets off them, and my mom tried some and didn't like the effect they had and didn't want to try more (as far as I know) but she sometimes takes meds for her nerves. anywho, thanks for your response!

Hi Ambitiouslyleiah, Find a friend whom you can confide or share what you truly feels. it will help having someone who will be there to support and understand you in this process. if you have someone close in your family them open up. try to relax and give yourself a break. listen to happy music, get a massage and have a moment of dialogue with god --say a little prayer. Try to smile and even laugh a lot-- this is a therapy and you will see how this will change your mood, outlook and feelings...you does not have to be insane to laugh. start laughing now...

Everyone goes through a period of depression in ones life. It is a fact. We should actually defeat depression by fighting it. First realize that we are the masters of our own destiny and Only we can change our life and no one else will. When God closes one door he opens another! So you better take care of yourself and find the door carefully! All the best!

I have the same experiences, but i try my best not to associate it with depression because it would only make me more depressed. What i do is i sleep it off, but most of the time it doesn't work too because when i wake up i'm still depressed. So i eat ice cream because it releases the happy hormones from our brain so it makes me less lonely. Plus, i go out with friends. I try to do that and just accept every challenge even if people get on my nerves most of the time. If you have watched Yes Man by Jim Carrey you better follow the advise. Just say yes, i know it sounds stupid but i think you get the message.

The best thing is to talk to your doctor. It could actually be a hormone problem. Or it could be a psychological problem. Either way your doctor can figure out the best method to take. You could see a psychologist and see if he can help out.

Most time, its my work..with ontime deliveries and work loads. I try to divert mind on music and i feel better. We need to manage depression, as it is part of life in busy world. But if we concentrate, we can manage it. I does it through my yoga, listening music and going out on vacation.

I do suffer from depression as well, and there's no way in hell that I am going to take any meds. I think most of the time I was feeling depressed because I chose to. I know it sounds weird, depression is suppose to be an illness, but I noticed that when I focus on the good, my life feels better and it gets better. I guess if nothing works for you, think of the good times you had with your family and friends. I know this world can be tough, but we all have good times, even if they are very few of them focus on that every time you feel depressed.
