ferberizing, is it effective

I just read about an article that ferberizing helps babies to solve infant's sleep problem.It was introduced by doctor Richard Ferber.According to wiki "ferberizing involves baby training by allowing the child to cry for predetermined period of time before receiving comfort".I just read but can't understand the concept fully.Have you tried it with your baby?Is it effective?My baby Jared is 3mos old now and I don't have problems with him.He only cries when he is hungry and wet but the rest of the day he play and makes sounds as if he is telling something.He also wants someone to talk to.That's why i take time every few minutes to talk to him while mylotting.He is so adorable and he is overweight.He's 7kilos and he's only 3mos.For Filipino babies he is big.I hope he stays healthy and fit all throughout.
