Hello dear friends, mylotters, mere bhai/s,sister/s, This evening,we(other friends and colleagues)visited two patients confined at two different hospitals. On our way to the first patient which has mild attack(hypertension)were passing a very long hallway leading to his room. I keep complaining why it has to be that long, why can't they just built the building in one structure minimizing the place, the expenses and etc. Ok,it's not the hallway anyway that i want to discuss in here...just a premise(lol) Going to the next patient,we need to use the elevator coz the room is on the 7th floor. While inside the lift,we're talking about incidents that could happen. "What if the elevator suddenly stopped midway and the lights turn off" Well,in our case,it's fine...we're in a group. But,what if you were alone inside the elevator?...or,you had a stranger with you? What do you think you would feel dear friends? Or,anyone ever had experienced like this?...how does it feels? Share your experience and thoughts in here dear mylotters. Have a wonderful weekdays ahead everyone

Oh please don't mention it, I don't like to think of it. I've had many dreams about being stuck and have been stuck a few times before. I get scared and worried, I don't like the feeling or thought. If I were to be alone, I'm sure I'd be a mess. Crying and in a corner, trying my hardest to keep myself calm. If I were with someone, and knew them I'd ask them to talk to me, if it were my husband I'd ask him to hold me...

Hello SomeCowgirl, Ohhh,i am sorry dear,i know this sounds scary and give us creepy feeling. I never had any experience being stuck inside an elevator, but i know it would be a scary one. Alone or with a stranger can be both scary...i wish with more people inside to give us much security and courage, even if it takes sometime being trapped. Thanks for your response and have a good weekdays ahead dear

yes, with more people in an elevator it would also be easier to call for help if no phone was available in the elevator or the electricity was out.

that's another question...most of the time when we are inside an elevator the signal is very poor...and it's hard to send message or made a call for outside using our handset. I just wish not to experience like this

hello jaiho my dear friend! well, just like of those scenes in a movie! if its a scary movie then it will be scary to be trapped on that elevator all alone or with a stranger! but if its like of those romantic movies and you will be trapped on elevator with a hunk...hmmm maybe before going out the elevator, you will going to have the love of your life! haha but if it does happen to me, hmmm of course at first i will feel nervous, scared... i think that's the initial reaction, but its also important to be calm, maybe i will try to get some help, by contacting authorities... or just use my cellphone to contact anyone in that place that i know so that they will know what happens to me...

haha, it will just be scary at first...but when you are already mesmerized with the hunk you are with...hmmm and you can resist his charm...the rest will be history! haha but kidding aside, i think the best thing that we can do in times like this, is to be calm, be relax and pray!

If I was alone, I would seriously panic because the thought of being alone in complete darkness gives em the creeps. If I was with other people however, I would just take a seat and try to spark conversation with them in the dark

Hello MrKennedy, Just the thought of being stuck alone inside an elevator gives me this creepy feeling. I just hope it wouldn't happen with me...(uh uh) I always make sure to have company whenever i use the lift...or rather take up the stairs if going just 2 floors. Thanks for your response and have a good day always

I have kind of a unique perspective on this subject. In my job one of the the things we do is answer distress calls for one of the largest elevator companies in the United States. When someone would get stuck in the elevator they would pick up the emergency phone and we would be on the other end. It can be a scary experience but for anyone who doesn't know these things here a few facts to ease your mind. First of all every elevator in the world has safety mechanisms built into them in case they fail. Alot of people panic and think they will run of air, which is a myth. All elevators have enough ventilation in them that this is not even a factor. Most of time it is just a case of being stuck in a confined space. It can be even more difficult if you are stuck with strangers. The key here is to remain calm and keep your wits about you. Every elevator has a notice posted on it with there address on it so be prepared to give it. Most of time they have pre-recorded messages that the dispatchers hear when it is stopped that give that information but its always good to know where to look and be prepared. As for some tricks that often work to get the elevator going. There is usually a red emergency button to push. It may or may not give off an alarm but in many cases pushing that button and holding it in for about 30 seconds will trigger the back up systems for an elevator and get it going again.

You told here everything I was thinking about, so my thoughts about that case are confirmed:) The main goal is to stay calm and don't get nervous, otherwise you'll lose the situation.

hello Raven, Thanks for this information, thu i knew that elevators had all the safety precautions and emergency buttons to press to send help from the building operators, the thought that, you were stuck alone inside that cage(ohhhh)...and the feeling of,"how much time will i wait till the rescue comes...or this things will operate again"...(whew!!) Here in our country, new buildings, and high rise one had elevator operator inside(mostly girls )so,it's not too scary. But with old and not too tall buildings, you operate it yourself, and this old ones looks not working (ugh!) I just hope not to experience such thing. Anyway, thanks again for this informative response,i hope this gives some mylotters idea not to get panic if being stuck inside the lift. Have a good day always

Oh, dude! I know a friend who have experience with this. Let me tell you the story! There were two elevators in his block. The one is used a lot, but the other rarely. He often prefers to use the regular one, but once he decided to use the other. Maybe you'll not believe me, but he stayed there for about 3 days and a half! It's awful! The elevator stopped, he was not able to ring, so he shouted a lot. . . But nobody heard him. His parents alerted the police and they were searching him! Even there was announcement on the national TV channel! Can you imagine this . . . Don't ask him what was it staying 3 days and a half there!

It happened to me before, I was with my 8 yr. old son, we went to my friend's office which is located on the 14th floor. We took the elevator and when were about to reach the 10th floor, the electricity suddenly stopped and so is the elevator. My son was so afraid and crying and me perspiring a lot. I was so nervous during that time but I have to have strength so that my son won't lose hope. I told him that we'll wait for rescue to come, that I have pressed the signal button so that the building maintenance would know that we were stuck in the elevator. It took 20 minutes before the help came because they have to take the stairs going up. They forced open the door and I we realized that the elevator stopped between 9th and 10th floor, it was very hard going out of the elevator due limited space. The problem with the building was that they do not have generators in cases like this. That was the last time that I went to that place. Never again!

And,maybe it's a good lesson for other buildings to had a standby generators for emergency cases like this. Thanks for sharing your scary experience and have a good day always dear

Hello! It has happened to our colleagues before at work. At our parking garage, it is VERY common for the people to get stuck in the elevator. It has failed various times and some people had to come in late. Basically, what they did (and what I would do) is push the emergency button. They summon security to fix it or the police to come. No reason to panic, unless, you are afraid to be in an elevator (lift) alone with other people. Hehehe. Cheerio! Happy postings on myLot!

hello callarse, I know there is no reason to panic since elevators had all the warning device and emergency buttons. But the instant panic and scared feeling will always be there when this thing happen, for the first time. And,it would be safer if being stuck alone rather with a stranger...i think it's fine with more people. I think your parking garage elevator needs for new one...not to make people sacred by being stuck always. Thanks for your response and have a good day always. Happy mylotting too

Nah, I think I wouldn't be scared if I was stuck alone in the elevator. I would be just worried about getting out there in time. I wouldn't surely try to get out of there on my own, but wait for repairman to get the lift moving and get me out there. If I were there with a stranger...hmm...I would pick up a conversation, so there would be not too boring to sit and wait for the help.

hello Bio, I guess it will be our first reaction...feel scared and worried. Our mind will automatically thinks "how long will the rescue come,or how much time will the lift move again". It would give me some courage if i had people with me,and not just two of us(with a stranger) If alone,it would be much scary,i think i would cry in despair(uh uh) I just hope this won't happen to anyone...and i really wonder how does it feel being stuck inside the elevator. Thanks for your response and have a good day always

I would be so scared, I already don't like elavators, they are just scary and too small of a space. I would probably just sit in the corner until someone rescued me or it started working again, I would be too scared to try anything else.

hello Ambitiously, I guess it will be our first reaction,to feel scared. If alone..i think is much better, coz, there's some warning device to press sending the signal to the building operator,or,if the building is modern enough, the operators will be notified the soonest possible time. But,what scares me,if,there's a stranger with me...uh uh,i just ope it's a woman also. Thanks for your response and have a good weekdays ahead dear

...Hi there jaiho2009, Happy 2009. Can't remember having an elevator stop with me inside. But if it ever did happen, if I were alone, I would more than likely scream, just because of fustration. Then I would calm nyself down, hopefully there would be an accessible telephone in the elevator. I would call for somebody to come and rescue me. Hopefully, it would not be too long and I would not have to be pulled up through the door, like you see people on television movies doing when the elevator gets stuck between floors. Hope I never have the experience. Take care.

Hello artistry, Yah,the feeling of fright being stuck alone inside the lift...of course it's easy to say..don't get panic, stay calm...but i don't think it would be easy to stay calm and not to be afraid when it happens in real life. I would rather choose to have more people inside with me...rather than just the two of us. Those movies with people stuck inside the elevator gives me the creep, what more if it happens to me in real(uh uh...no no please) Thanks for your response and have a good day always

hello RedRose, That's good,it is really good to stay calm and think positively. But sometimes it would be very hard to control our real feelings and emotions when we are facing the real situation. Thanks for your response and have a good day always
