Have you ever did this before? Well today I answered the telephone and it was from this insurance company trying to get me to take some insurance that I can not afford. I am unemployed and have been for over a year. I am a senior citizen that have worked all of my adult life, I have given to the system (paid my taxes, they have taken all kind of deductions from my wages, etc.) Now I need some assistance and there is none out there that I qualify for. I am between a rock and a hard place, not old enough to retire, and too old to handle the jobs that are available in this area. Having said all of this, now back to the issue at had. This person called trying to get me to get this expensive insurance which I can't afford. This agent ended up listening to my situation for about 15 minutes. I told him about how the company I worked for, for 24 years went bacnkrupt and lost all the retirement money, how I can't get any kind of government assistance, etc. The poor fellow listen to me for about 15 minutes, ( not interrupting me). My question is have you ever just took a person time, speech, etc., turned it around and it was all about you? Wow, that really made my day. I closed out telling him thanks for listening. After hanging up I laughed at myself.

Good for you that you got someone to listen!!! I am in about the same boat financially except I have all the doctors documentation I need for my disability but so far I sit and wait and have been since my husband left which was June 01. I used to think it was just Canada that was going to the dogs but being here on myLot has opened my eyes wide to to fact it's the same everywhere. You work your tail off all your life then when you need help you're just S.O.L. My biggest problem is I am not old enough for old age security or senior housing so I'm hooped. Now here I'm thinking you're in worse shape than that fellow that listened to all your troubles, at least he could have hung up on you or put the phone down. hehehehe. Well nevertheless, Thank You for listening and yes I have taken up someones time, Yours. Maybe we need to win a lottery, the chances are far better than our government looking after us, after all they were done with us the minute we were out of work. OK Already I'm done.

Grandmaof2, I checked your profile page and we are the same age. So I guess the both of us are in the same boat. I am trusting in God to see me through this. Like you said the government doesn't give a flip about us. But God Loves Us. Be blessed Grandmaof2

Hi, Chevee! We all need to vent now and then. It's great that the man was kind enough to give you some attention.

I never like to meet an insurance sales person. They are very persuasive and they try every possible ways to get you to buy insurance. I know insurance is good only if you have the money to pay the fixed amount every month. But in your case he lost the battle and you had his attention listening to you instead. I have learned to block my mind from sales talk and would tell them that I don't have the money yet. They will just leave me in peace.

Hahahahaha - free therapy! Cool! Haven't happened to me though. I rarely pick up the phone at home. I figured, they'd leave a message if it's really important. And they rarely do - so it must not be that important. I'm sorry about your situation - it's tough to hear about situation like yours (and all the others that have commented and in the same boat). And this economy has not been helpful. I'm sorry to hear that.

Haha, Funny...But it is a common phenomenon. It seems that you are a vigorous person, who always wanna to convince others. Now, you felt disapponited and confused, i supposed you really need a quiet listener. As a good sale for insurance, he should be like that, even though he is impatient.

gOOD for u turning the tables on him. People selling on the phone are pains in the behind as far as i'm concerned anyway. There is no way i would buy anything off the phone from anybody. Hang in there, girlfriend.

Hey Chevee~ Good to see again, but sorry your situation is still the same. I can absolutely understand what you are going through because the same thing happened to me and is still happening! I got Disability from the State of NY, but they decided I needed to pay $447 a month for Medicaid which is the most pathetic form of healthcare they have! You have to go to clinics and it is disgusting! They expect me to pay for this miserable care, say I am disabled and now expect me to get a job! I am supposed to be declared Disabled! How do they expect me to work? Duh? I am sick! So, who is going to hire me at my age, I am too young for medicare, too young for retirement and don't have any anyway! So now I can't manage with the money the State is giving me because I need some sort of health care in case I get sicker and need to go to the hospital again! I have done the same thing and ended up telling a perfect stranger my tale of woe and then I felt so bad that I held them captive! So, yes I know exactly what you mean! Just be glad you don't live in NYS!!!

That is nice to know that there still considerate people in this world. It's touching to know that people like that in the insurance company takes time to listen even if he has still some works to do. If we could just do that to others, we could at least make them feel better.
