ok i got the credit card in 2001. then my credit went to hell but my apr stayed low.. by the time they started raising it my credit score was up into average/high and so i called to ask them to lower it and they said they check every 2 years and if your credit has improved it will automatically be lowered.. and that was in 2005.. i was called by one of their reps because they wanted to sell me their credit security thing and they asked why i dont use it. i told them their apr is bs and they were rude to me on the phone when i asked about it and it still raises all the time even though my credit score is PERFECT.. she told me to call in and ask them again because they are lowering them more often now. i call and a stupid guy i could not understand well tells me its automatically checked every 6 months and changed and i told him that is BS because my credit is perfect yet its gone up 10% since when my credit was bad and he is like we cannot do anything until it just happens to be your time.. wtf.. how do they justify raising it as i IMPROVE my credit score?!?! everything and i mean EVERYTHING negative has been off my credit report for at least two years now and it just went up again! im seriously pissed off.. if it wasnt for the fact i have had the card forever and it looks good on my credit to have a card so long in great standing i would cancel it.. anyone having this problem? all my other credit cards have lowered or are already half the apr chase is! and now chase has bought out my washington mutual card its skyrocketed too!

We have had a Chase credit card for a few years hasn't budged even though my husbands credit score has moved around a bit. Have you gone to a Chase bank and actually talked to someone or are you doing all this over the phone? I don't do anything over the phone with the bank unless they force me to. I haven't noticed any change since Chase bought WaMu other than some of the services that Chase charged for before to use with the account type we have are now free. If you don't need the Chase card, I'd get rid of it.

Chase just changed how they do all the rewards on their cards too. Sucks. I know we got a notice in the mail about it, haven't opened it yet tho. Thats the problem when you credit score is mainly credit cards, you can't get rid of the ones you hate. We have been trying to get rid of cards but then the new cards haven't been on our credit very long and the crappy ones have.

Hey moonlit! I hate to tell you, but you are not alone! I ask my HSBC Bank Credit Card about lowering the APR all the time and they give me the same crap! And they keep telling me what great and outstanding credit I have with them, but they raise the APR anyway instead of lowering it! And this goes for my Target Mastercard too! So I think this "lowering" is just a game they play to get us to use the damn card! I am trying to get my HSBC Credit Card payed off and when I do I'm done with it! It's APR is too high! I will use it once in awhile when I know it is for something small and pay it off immediately! I did the same thing with another store credit card! I paid it off and unless I really need to use it for something small I will not touch it!

yeah that is how i like to do them.. pay it off every month.. but unfortunately a couple of thousand dollars in medical bills slammed me within a month or so so i was tempted to see if they would lower it so i could use it on those.. other wise i would let it sit and collect dust!!

I hate credit cards. I have a pre-paid Master card with my Canadian bank, and a debit card with an American bank. In Canada debit cards are not associated with credit cards, so an American debit card is a really handy thing to have. Because I have those two, I really don't need a real credit card and I'm happy with that.

CREDIT CARDS ARE EVIL!!!! Satan himself patented the idea for them. They'll screw you over no matter what you do, no matter how good a customer you've been. Eventually they will get you.

Me too. I was with WaMu and then it became Chase and they put my card at 31 percent!!!!! It is a crime. I am trying to pay it off fast. They will not even discuss it with me and I own 2 homes and have other cards. I am no deadbeat. everything is current.

i know!! i cant even remember the last time i went over the limit or forgot to pay it for YEARS!! (and those were my husband and his lovely way of saying he will put mail in the box and it end up laying in the spare room and some stupid thing charging my card when i had canceled it putting me over the limit) so i have had a lot of years of perfect activity with them and every other card i own so they cant pull that i am bad with it or anything.. i was hoping they would lower it because i do have a huge medical bill due on wens (800 bucks) that if i pay cash for it will leave me so strapped i would stress myself out but i was gonna charge it and pay it off in like two months (since i cant stand to carry a balance) but heck they arent budging so i am going to use another card that is almost a 1/3rd their apr!! i was just hoping to give it some activity so they wouldnt close my account and hurt my credit!

I think lots of credit card providers are sh*t-scared at the prospect of soaring rates of default in the aftermath of the financial crisis (which is, incidentally, far from playing out). Default rates are already touching record highs - increasing the rate charged on debt is simply a means of trying to maximise profit in difficult circumstances. Lenders know that no-one else is lending - so, it's tricky to "take business elsewhere" - and for every person that does, dozens won't bother, and will end up paying the higher rate. I think it's sickening, but fully understandable (and logical) in the context of a capitalist system in crisis. I'd keep the card, with no debt on it. Don't let them screw you for a single penny!
