How is your town doing in this recession

Our little corner of Colorado has seen better days. We have a restaurant closing after 22 years. A hotel hasnt paid their people in over a month. This is just in this weeks news. Our town isnt that big, about 77000 people. We had the first bank go belly up (of course this was my bank). We are above the national unemployment average. We were one of the first hit with foreclosures. How is your town. Are you showing signs of bouncing back yet? or are you still losing businesses and jobs?

Our town seems to be doing ok as they continue to build schools, library and City hall. No roads fixed or ditches cleaned but hey that's ok, right?

I am glad your doing well. I really have no desire to live in India but thank you. It is good that your city is doing so good and people are cheerful! :)

laglen here in southern ca in Garden Grove many people are without jobs, some have lost their homes due to foreclosure,we were evicted, rents are sky high, companies are laying off people, some smaller businesses have closed, its just plain ' awful. some places have been here for years, now they went bankrupt and closed their doors. my son is still out of work after a whole year. its just dreadful.

That is awful! I wish our government would get the heck out of the way and let private businesses fix this problem.

I live in Southern California - and it's been slow, especially with the housing slump. I live in an area where development is pretty rampant during the house boom. But now, stuff has slowed down A LOT. And like you, a lot of small mom and pop restaurants are closing their doors. Slow signs of bouncing back - 2 walgreens have opened up in the past year and another on the way. I'm sure those have hired some local folks. I sure hope 2010 is a better year for all of us!

I live in Liverpool, which is always one of the first places to get shafted in the UK. To be fair, the recession hasn't actually hit all that hard (well, it has - I'm talking relative to the rest of the country), but only because the city was utterly f*cked in the last major downturn, and never fully recovered... It wasn't too long ago that some wonk from a right-wing think tank advocated abandoning the city and moving down south, which is effectively treason. I say: declare a republic!

We have it really hard around here. The small businesses are closing down and the big fishes are profiting from it. There are some firms which have been here for more than 30 years and now are either closing or behind payments. People are staying at home more and more and everything becomes harder to get. There are less people in restaurants in bars and cinemas, etc. We all hope that things will get better starting from the spring. There are jobless people who are just waiting for the things to get better because it is hard to find a job even as waitress

I sure hope that everything will be back to normal soon. When it happens I am going to look for a new job, one which I will like and not only do it for the money Thanks for the best response
