Good day to all! Well, community sites are created so that users can socialize with other people, to interact with them and to get friends online. On forums, we are usually reading on the posts, sharing our own thoughts, views and opinions and not just by judging on the avatar, right? A friend asked me to change avatar because others got annoyed with it. I replied that I will let it stay on my profile, I still got friends not because of the avatar but because of the way I post and on how I helped them, I just put that image to test how a person judges the personality of others. Those who are hunting the mystery avatar, it was mine. Do you agree that the post of a user is more important than the avatar?

I have to be honest. I didn't even look at your avatar until you referenced it in the text. I don't think that the avatar makes the person. But I do believe that their is such a thing a an inappropriate one. Yours is not in that category. The information one provides should always be held above their appearance. Whether online on in person. Einstein was a goofy looking guy that didn't know how to dress most of the time. I still have respect for his insights and theories.

Hello, welcome to mylot! Yes, the information a user provides is more important than its appearance. You had given a nice representation of the topic which was Einstein, as you have said that even he does not know how to dress, our respect was on him because of his intelligence which was proved by his theories. The same should also be applied in here. The content is more important than on the image but there are others who rely on first impression or just looking on the appearance and make it as a basis of interacting with a user. I am just focused on the posts because we can learn a lot from reading. And because reading and interacting with others is what I am doing, I prefer to hide the images on my browser for faster page loading.

Maybe many Lotters are unaware that there is a 'mystery' avatar running around here causing others to have thoughts which go in all directions I am aware of many avatars, many thoughts on whether a certain avatar is necessary and whether it truly reflects the user who is behind it and I am also guilty or contacting a friend and informing of the distraction that it was causing others. Then I read the response I received and I re-thought out the whole episode. An eye-opener to say the least! We are all unique here and therefore we each have our own reasons for the avatar we choose. Some are easily explained and others need a bit longer to see what caused that particular choice. Sometimes great points are made and in this case, a brilliant one! The choice of your avatar could (should?) make us stop and think. Does it reflect you or does it suggest that you are provoking others to react to it? I now understand and I support you to the full! Our posts should indeed represent us more than our avatar. That is something which we can be recognised by superficially but if we then stop off and read your posts we will learn much more about you. The avatar is only a sort of 'trade-mark' and although I can understand that some may be put off by it, I can appreciate your reasons for choosing it. You have made your point! I hope now that many who might have avoided your posts until now because of it will now think twice and go beyond it and see the irony behind the choice you made. Nice one Boogerman!

Very well said, friend! I like the way how you explained the topic. About the irony behind my avatar, it could be similar to your discussion about 'S.C.A.M.', at first, I thought it was a negative content but on the end of your post, it was extremely positive, nice logic! Yes, I also believe that many users that don't consider the avatar as a basis of interacting with a user, if a user knows how to socialize with others, they can adapt with lots of people when they interact with them and they will know the deep side of a person hiding on a cloak as the conversation goes on. Well, I have nothing to add, you've said it all! Thanks!

I agree with you. I request friends base upon the posts I read from them and if I like their responses. I don't really care what avatar one has chosen for themselves. I do find the avatars interesting as they do give one a little insight into the posters personality. But I would never think of asking someone to remove their avatar because it annoyed me.

Well, a friend asked me a favor to change my avatar because she noticed that there are some who are annoyed or irritated on it, just a part of concern that's why she requested for that. But when I replied about my stand, she supported me on it. Yes, it could give a little insight on personality but not the whole, just a decoration and the content is more important than the appearance.

hi, i never find your avatar as scary and maybe it is offensive to other but they should not take it as personal as for me avatar of all sort is entertaining to make the site not so boring as too much seriousness is tiring. don't ever bother about what other are saying and maybe they only feel insecure as they do not know to upload gif avatar..lol.. one could not judge a person behind an avatar unless they know him/her directly so thus who irritate should be the one to be ashamed of as they have little understanding...

Hello! Yes, it couldn't be offensive. But as I posted on sixth response, it could be sensitive to others and find it to be disgusting. It must not be taken personally or seriously, we are to discuss something and not to judge others how the avatars look like. Maybe insecurity is also a reason, as you have said. When someone asks how to upload an animated image as an avatar, I always try to be the first one to help them because I did it myself and I just want to share it to others, in that way, their avatars could be entertaining too. Have a nice day!

i find your avatar unique and funny. nothing to be ashamed of as avatar is a mode of entertainment and some should not taken them seriously as to become so serious drives anyone boring. all have freedom to express their opinion and express it but should take care not to degrade other people when they never know who the real person is..

Yes, some other users also said that my avatar was funny. It was intended to make people laugh. But it could be sensitive for others as they might find it to be disgusting as you look on how it moves. You are right, it was just a part of entertainment and must not be taken seriously. The important thing is to focus on how the user participates on a discussion by reading on the posts, we can get information from reading and there is nothing to learn from looking on the picture, just a part of fun. Well said!

I believe that our posts here reflect the person that we are more than an avatar does. Unless if it's your own picture, of course. I don't find yours as annoying or inappropriate at all, I barely even noticed it. It's a smiley and I'm sure it is intended to be fun, nothing personal. But yeah, people's points of view vary. I barely look at the member's avatars, I immediately jump into the comments.

Yes, as I posted on the sixth response, it is intended to make people laugh, and there is nothing personal, it is just for fun so it must not be taken seriously. The attention must be focused on the posts as we are here to discuss, to share information and to interact with others, the avatar is just a sort of entertainment. And in entertainment, such as movies, it has different genres and because the views of people vary, we have our own choice what to image to put on our own profiles.

Our Avatar is just a symbol and does not mean we are not good. Post more important than anything, because by posting a lot of qualities we know people. Do not judge people just by looking at the Avatar, look at Avatar movie them available to help others in difficulty. What a mystery to me is that I do not see any image that appears. I even don't have a good avatar.

Hi there! Yes, it is just a symbol, it could represent something but it could not be the basis for judging a user, the post is more important. You said that you can't see any image appears. Well, I also have that option not to see the images so the page loading is faster. Do you also use cell phone for posting here? Or, you just disable the loading of images on your browser. Anyway, that was fine, in order to make browsing faster, disabling of images can help.

Hello boogerman? In summary your discussion can be compare to Avatar Versus Post. For me? You must not judge the avatar of the user no matter what it is because he/she have reason why he/she choosen it. What if the avatar of a user do have a sentimental value that's why she/he keep it no matter what it is. Even though it is ugly or not. Will you ask/request someone to removed it and hurt him/her because of a simple avatar that irritates you? Of course not! Because the most important here is the post/response of the user and not the avatar of the user. I'm sure you will like the good content post than an ugly avatar. I remember my teacher told me that "don't judge a book by it's cover" which is true when you compare it to the situation right here. Well, that's all my response! Happy posting and enjoy mylot.

You are right! Good to know what you have learned about that saying. It was not directly, a friend was just concerned because she noticed a discussion posted earlier, which may be opposed by this topic.
