Snooze me for another 9 minutes...

I woke up this morning after hitting the snooze button on the alarm clock a few too many times but made it to work on time. Of course during a long boring day my mind wandered & I began asking" Why do all alarm clocks seem to have a nine minute snooze delay?" Why not 6 minutes or 10? Why do all of them I've ever owned have 9 minute delays?
Any ideas or theories on this?

maybe some study discovered that 10 minutes was too long - they spend money on studies all the time that are total waste of funds!
