Top Ranking sites and blog

Hello people,
I think you would be able to do a google search but you would not know if that is the top ranking blog or site? One would be able to find on alexa.
However, I would like to find out what are the ways to find out which site are top or popular site on the internet?

One of the standards for knowing if a blog is popular is a site called technoratti which monitors blogs and lists the top 100 blogs. It's probably the best one to use for blogs.

I believe so, but I would take a guess that anyone who is anyone when it comes to blogging will have registered with Technoratti. So would sya their list would be quite reliable.
